Help me decide for a finesse baitcaster
Hi all,
I am looking for a finesse baitcaster, that I can also use in the salt every now and then.
Following options are on the table:
http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Daiwa_SV ... -D5SV.html
https://japanlureshop.com/abu-revo-mgxt ... 14221.html
https://japanlureshop.com/shimano-15-al ... -9213.html
Use would be:
Weightless worms, Wacky rigs, Ned rigs, Small Jigs and Small jerkbaits
Thoughts are welcome!
Thanks!

Is it worth to spend another 100 USD to get the Aldebaran over the SV105?

Once you go Aldebaran, you cant go back lol.. mount it on a sub 4 oz rod it gets hard to go back to a heavier combo. Cast light lures really well too.freelancer27 wrote:Is it worth to spend another 100 USD to get the Aldebaran over the SV105?

I'd go Scorpion BFS:

I don't like using Mg reels in Salt even if the manufacturer says it's ok.

Having both reels the Aldebaran is a step above in the smoothness department.Cal wrote:I'd go Scorpion BFS:

Comparing against the Scorpion or the Alpha SV?

Re: Help me decide for a finesse baitcaster
If wanting to cast ultra light baits on a true bfs rod, and saltwater friendly - Alphas Air
Small weightless worms, micro hardbaits, etc
More power finesse, the Steez SV TW is marvelous, though I wouldn't use it in the salt.
1/8 oz plus plastics, etc
You could get a Steez A TW and add an Slp 1012 SV spool and have the best of both worlds. I have one in my Steez SV TW, and it will outcast finesse baits compared to any other reels I've owned. It will cast 1/16 oz far, accurate, and with ease on the right rod. Absolutely fantastic right at 1/8 oz. Flick if the wrist and it just sails.

Re: Help me decide for a finesse baitcaster
For baits lighter than 1/4oz I would take the Scorpion BFS, because the Aldebaran spool is relatively heavy (round about 16g like the spool of the Curado 71) and the spool capacity is the same as the spool capacity of the Curado.Bootytrain wrote:Aldebaran vs scorpion bfs
But the performance of the Scorpion BFS is really good and comparable to the Aldebaran BFS.
Furthermore the Aldebaran 50 has the old SVS-Infinity and the Scorpion BFS the really nice FTB.

Re: Help me decide for a finesse baitcaster
I own the 16 Aldebaran BFS, SS AIR and the Alphas AIR. I find the AIR brakes are nicer in the wind and for skipping. The FTB in the Aldebaran is nice for the super light stuff and is my preferred reel for tiny BFS stuff. The FTB does a better job with the wind than the SVS does but not quite like the AIR reels. The AIR brakes I also find to be able to handle a wider range of baits. That's why I use the SS AIR for more all-round BFS stuff-Boris- wrote:For baits lighter than 1/4oz I would take the Scorpion BFS, because the Aldebaran spool is relatively heavy (round about 16g like the spool of the Curado 71) and the spool capacity is the same as the spool capacity of the Curado.Bootytrain wrote:Aldebaran vs scorpion bfs

Re: Help me decide for a finesse baitcaster
Thats incorrect, the Aldebaran 50 has a 12 gram spool including the bearing for silent tune. Without the bearing the spool is probably 11 grams. I do agree that the Scorpions lighter spool will handle lighter lures better than the Aldebaran.-Boris- wrote:For baits lighter than 1/4oz I would take the Scorpion BFS, because the Aldebaran spool is relatively heavy (round about 16g like the spool of the Curado 71) and the spool capacity is the same as the spool capacity of the Curado.Bootytrain wrote:Aldebaran vs scorpion bfs

Re: Help me decide for a finesse baitcaster
I have 15 alde bfs ltd, 16 alde bfs xg, and sv105. All of them are very nice little reels, but if I had to keep 1 of them for finesse it would be 16 aldebaran.
Thats says I mostly fish fresh water and didnt try the new scorpion, the alde must be a little bit better in some department, weight, palming,.. but maybe not 100-200$ better.
If budget wasnt an issue and I had to choose another bfs to add to my collection, I believe it would be the new conquest bfs.

Re: Help me decide for a finesse baitcaster
Thanks guys,
The BFS reels are nice but maybe a bit too specific for me. I am a 99.9% bank angler and I need get some distance with the reel. I am planning to use 15pound braid with a 10# fluro leader on the set up. So I am not sure if the line capacity is sufficient here.
If you had to decide between the two reels, which one would you choose and why?
* SV 105 (190 USD through TW)
* Shimano 15 Aldebaran HG (300 USD via Japantackle)
Use would be 80% freshwater. Lures: anything from 1/8 oz and up

Re: Help me decide for a finesse baitcaster
Then you don't really need a finesse baitcaster... for your application and budget, I'd look at the Tatula SV TWS.freelancer27 wrote: I am a 99.9% bank angler and I need get some distance with the reel. Re: Help me decide for a finesse baitcaster
Just unboxed my Tatula SV TW 8.1. Did some test casting in the yard. It's a sick reel for 200 bucks.Cal wrote:Then you don't really need a finesse baitcaster... for your application and budget, I'd look at the Tatula SV TWS.freelancer27 wrote: I am a 99.9% bank angler and I need get some distance with the reel.
