longest running hardest working reel

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

longest running hardest working reel

I think it was a ford motto at one time but
what is your oldest and longest lasting, hardest working reel that you have had absolutely zero issues with?
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible

Scorpion XT1000 and Calais 100A have both been faultless. Had to replace their gear sets after 4 years and 100s of large fish, but that's OK....still super smooth and great casters

Curado50E. The only reel I've had since brand new when BPS put them on sale online for $99. That thing has been everywhere with me.

Penn 710 spinning reel - you didn't ask for a bass reel or freshwater only answer! The "greenie" is a legend. I have one going on 50 years old that's been fished thousands of hours in brutal saltwater jetty conditions. It looks like hell, but I'm willing to bet substantially that it can beat whatever I can hook. All it ever needs is annual cleaning and lube, maybe occasional drag washers. Truly an awesome piece of gear!

From the fly fishing side -the Pflueger 1495DA. Got mine new circa 1968. Caught literally thousands of fish from striped bass to bluefish, largemouth, smallmouth, pike, carp and buffalo. Never needed anything more than a clean and lube. I have examples that I fish that date back to the first generation made in the 1930's!

Penn squidder - surf casting excellence. Again, over 40 years of abuse on mine with no parts replaced. This isn't an uncommon story. They are legendary.

Finally, for a bass reel I'd have to hand it to the Garcia Mitchell spinning reel or the Abu Garcia Ambassador series in baitcasters. They are as close to indestructible as anything I can imagine.

Probably the Ambassadeur series of reels for pure longevity...ask anyone who owned them from the 1950s-1990s. Curado B reels, Daiwa Zillions, and the Chronarch A and SF reels.

Shimano Calcutta TE . These reels are built like a tank and will last a lifetime if well maintained.

My Curado 200DHSV. My dad gave it to me on a Loomis GL3 when we won our first tournament together over 10 years ago, and it still feels as smooth as when he got it, despite all those years of use.

My SF is one of my favorite reels to fish and balances beautifully on a Powell c733. Killer outfit for swim jigs!

millionare cvz 203 la...think i bought it in 2001. In 2005 I started throwing swimbaits on it which i threw 90% of the time. I've only replaced the AR bearing probably due to lack of maintenance. Still has the oorigional drag. Built like a tank.
