Curado 71 or Chronarch MGL?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

This helps me out a lot. I just bought a used 70XG from a buddy of mine and I love the thing. It's so light and easy to palm than I'm looking for an HG to go on a different rod.

What line do you have on yours?

I guess that makes me x5. I have both a 71 and a Chronarch MGL. I love the size of the 71, but prefer the MGL most of the time. I think it handles fish better and casts a little further. It also does well with light lures. I haven't had the chance to throw lighter lures on the 71 yet, though. We'll see how it does.

A few people on here have said the Chronarch MGL tops the Curado 70 for light lure casting. I think the Chronarch MGL spool is 13.6 grams and the Curado 70 is 15.7 grams. The lower capacity of the 70 helps to level the weights out, but the larger, wider, and better bearings of the MGL probably do help it best the 70. If they made a Chronarch MGL 70 (even using the Curado 70 frame) with all the new tech and extras I would throw money tied to a rock from here to their headquarters.

both are nice reels. casting the Chronarch is much nicer, flipping i prefer the smaller profile 71.

Awesome, I'm considering 20lb PP on mine and running an 8lb Hybrid leader when I feel it's needed. Am I off base here?

For my baitcasters, I've never tried using braid under 30 pound since I've heard that thinner diameter braid has an easier time digging into itself.

If you plan on using 8 pound leader, I'd recommend 30 pound braid since that's about the same line diameter as 8 pound mono.

Have 20 on my reels now. It works well and is easier to pick out than mono in the event of a professional overrun.

Gentlemen, thank you for your responses. Looks like another Chronarch MGL for me.
