Looking to pick up this reel for a jerk bait set up. It will be going on a G Loomis MBR842 GLX. This set up will pull second duties as a drop shot set up also.
Before I lay down the dollars for it, I would like some opinions from those who have it and the plus and minus's of this reel.
I will be getting it at cost from a local dealer if that matters.

A friend of mine I tournament fish with owns 2 Steez SV (non TW). The 6.3 has aluminum gears I think, and he uses it for little squarebills and wart style cranks on a 6'6" Medium heavy fitzgerald rod (crank/jerk). I have tried it on a few occasions, it is a great setup. If I owned it, it would be exactly for the techniques you mentioned. I personally would prefer a faster reel, and I am also scared of aluminum gears so the 8.1 would be my choice. I have never owned a reel over $300 so that Steez really interested me. Both his Steez reels have HEAVY (4-5 days a week) use for around 2 years and are in great condition, I noticed one day and laughed about how long the handle knobs would spin... not really relevant but a cool attribute to the quality of the reel.

After some more study, The higher speed real would go better in this technique.
The nice thing about the higher speed in this reel is the gears are made of brass.

I own the 8:1 and love it. Sturdy, solid, smooth, connected. I use mine for small to medium sized paddle tails on relatively light heads. I stole the spool from my Steez SV TW and it has found a permanent home in my Steez SV103.

I didn't know that about the 8 gear being brass. That has me thinking.

I picked up the steez today. My dealer gave me a deal I could not refuse. $250.00. He had it on the shelf to long and wanted to move it. i'm going to order new 7.X gears for it and a longer carbon handle with Megabass knobs.
May even add a little bling to it!
