2017 Shimano Met MGL Z-Pride

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

2017 Shimano Met MGL Z-Pride

Post by caoabunga » Sun Sep 10, 2017 9:48 pm

Hi All,

I came across this the other day - http://zpi-japan.com/products/ZPride17.html and I was wondering if its worth the price?

A normal Met MGL right now is currently $300ish if you go to the right online retailers. I am currently in the market for 7.1 - 7.4 ratio for my jerkbait/topwater rod. I was considering pairing my j-dream 7.9 on but I figured I would leave that for my jigging rod instead.

I have read the description on the site basically saying the reel will be lighter and provide a smoother cast. I have yet to experience any ZPI products and I was wondering people who have used or own the 13 Met Z-Pride can chime in and provide their feedbacks.

Thanks!

Cool looking reel, but MSRP price of 68,000 Yen is kinda out of my range.

I'm skeptical of the linear mag braking. I like it for UL baits but prefer a centrifugal componet to my mag breaking for regular use.

Sure! If you have a MGL already,to get a ZPI spool vs magbrake come not so pricey... :)
