Steez A Gears

Hi does anyone know if there is any brass gear swaps for the Steez A. I feel like brass gears would be better in saltwater rather than the duraluminum (i think thats how it is spelled) gears. I read on google that aluminum gears corrode a little faster. I am trying to make my reel as saltwater proof as possible. Do you think the 13Fishing concept z bushing things will fit on this reel.

There is no brass gear for that reel. As for upgrading the corrosion resistant ball bearings, I think you would kill the performance of that reel.

Old post but...........

I finally got my hands on an A and found the main gears have the exact same center as the older steez/OG Zill. Main gear is an exact swap, But the pinion is another story. Daiwa added liners to each bearing and the yoke is much different.

Pulling the liners and modding a yoke should have us using what ever gearset we please. I'll start a new thread once I get my gears as I'd like a 5.3:1 and Daiwa JDM won't sell a set at this time. :(

Yes there is spanky, I am successfully running a og zillion main gear in a steez a but have to use the steez a pinion.

Did you do that to get a certain gear ratio or was the steez A main gear material not durable enough for you?

Something we'll need to work on. I'm pulling the sleeves out of my A and see what mods the yoke may need to get the OG gears fitted. I got a tatula yoke in the bin somewhere...............

I need a brass gear for myself, I like brass because I fish mainly saltwater. Can somebody link me to the gear they used?

What gear ratio, Left or right handed?

Wouldn’t the morethan pe 19 8.6 bronze gears be a direct fit?

I am a tinkerer. just did it to see if it could be done.

I fish the Steez A's in salt and have had no issues with the alloy gear, I only put a brass gear into one of mine to see if it could be done.

the morethan 8.6 gears are a hybrid with alluminium body and brass teeth. plus that ration is too fast for a lot of applications.

pretty sure the slot in the pinion where the yoke goes is at different heights for the steez a vs og zillion pinion. but in the og zillion range there is a main gear to match 3 out of the 4 ratios available in the steez A , 5.3:1 from the j dream , 6.3:1 and 7.1:1 I have done the mod with a 6.3:1 og zillion main gear and steez A pinion and it is nice and smooth, I removed the o rings from the main shaft and use 2 carbontex washers , one under and one in the main gear and use the steez A drag plate minus the clicker pawl and spring.

Why not use the stacked drag from the OG?

I want mine to be 5.3:1 and have a set of gears order. I don't have the OEM pinion and they aren't selling them yet(for repair only). I'm thinking a Tat yoke has the similar slot location and might be mod-able to get the OG gear set installed? Its my next project after the Coastal-TW 200 drag mod...........

Thanks. Recently bought a steez A and really didn't want to find out the gears weren't durable. I primarily fish freshwater for bass so it doesn't need to stand up to saltwater fishing conditions but I definitely like my equipment to last.

I've also been wondering if I should have gone with the new morethan instead of the steez A but I'm sure the A will work well for me.
