Reel Boxes

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Reel Boxes

Post by medicpelle » Tue Dec 05, 2017 8:38 pm

Am I one of the few that save my reel boxes for reels that I use? I'm not talking about shelf queens but daily reels. Started to go through one of my closets and was amazed on how many boxes I still have. I also found a lot of MB 110 straight eye boxes, not sure why I keep this stuff.

I keep the reel boxes only because when I sell them, it seems like everyone who buys them really wants the original boxes with the paperwork, etc. Of course, I had a bunch of E Series Curado boxes that I kept for 5+ years and finally decided to recycle them.... only to sell all the reels the next year!

I keep my boxes as well.. not sure why, I guess why is what has been mentioned- for resale. However I'll buy a used reel without box & etc. (if it's priced right and has been taken care of).

Of course I'm that guy who keeps all his moving boxes... I have some from the early 90s- and they still work great. Everyone makes fun of me, but guess what- they always ask to borrow (and they do return them).

I keep my reel boxes for storage of reels not in use/rotation and for future resale.

I keep the boxes for several reasons:

1. I can keep the schematic, warranty info, misc tools or oils plus any parts I swap out. For example I swap the stock bearings, handle, or various reel parts, I can keep the originals in there should I choose to put it back to stock

2. The box adds more value to most buyers when it is time to sell said reel

3. Sometimes it is nice to have them for storage purposes as boxes with reels inside can stack easier inside a box or tote that just reels in covers.

This! I have all of my boxes.

makes it easy to pack them up for resale as well as a little value to reel.

While i did keep boxes it became a argument for space as others mentioned.

I'm now cutting off the side of the box with main reel name lable and spec side and keep all the paperwork in my files with their receipts etc.

Certainly keep the higher spec / JDM reel boxes, otherwise i dont see how a box adds any value imho, especially if the owner cant show proof of regular maintenance over the reels lifetime.

Those of you that are commenting about having "space issues". Here is a quick fix, take the box and fold it down. Just like you would do to a regular product box, since reel boxes can be undone and folded down. You can now stack them flat on top of each other.

I save them. I put the receipt in the box and keep the original paperwork in there as well. I don't think it adds money to the resale value but people do appreciate the reel with the box.

I keep the box on EVERY reel. Keep the receipt, papers, and any original parts (from customizing/upgrading) in tiny ziploc's and leave them all in the box. Seemed to help me sell my Lew's BB1 Pro and Revo Winch.

I keep them and have no idea why. I'm just a hoarder.
