03 calcutta conquest 201 digital control brake

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

03 calcutta conquest 201 digital control brake

These blocks were installed on two different drums 03 Shimano CC201 DC. But they are different. Left is working fine. Right brakes very poorly. Can the block to the right of the other reel?

This looks like a "Rev" change for the brake. My "Generation 1" DC reel's control happens to look like the one on the right. I truly would figure that the parts are interchangeable. Shimano would not make 2 (or more) frames to accommodate brake changes. Tooooo expensive to do something like that. Never happen.

Best thing to do is carefully re-assemble with "new" part. Don't force anything. Look and feel for any potential mechanical interference issue. Frame and spool fit. Be sure to loosen the spool tension knob significantly - don't need that to spook you.

Tighten the last screw - and try it out on the water!

Just for conversation - I believe the right controller is the newer part. Notice the white silicone around the sensor? I think this is a factory update (rev change) when it was found that there were water issues with the sensor. (Probably in cool damp use over a long period). The silicone helps the moisture bead away from the electric eye. The top plate also shows a bit more detail work. More signs of a newer rev.
