What do you daiwa guys use to bomb lures?

I'm mostly a daiwa guy these days. So what reel are you guys using when distance matters? The sv is for control and the hlc's aren't popular. I say this even though yesterday I fished from 9am till dark and my zillion sv tw's were really holding their own with a 1/2oz spinnerbait and trap. However, my centrifugal concept A's will still roll them when given a heavier bait. So anyway daiwa guys....what is your 1/2oz+ reel?

I wouldn't say any one stock reel / spool really stands out aside from the Z, so I'm told. This is where it pays to play in camp Daiwa - "Tinkering" with so many different spools and inductors, and I'm not just talking SV tech. I wouldn't be surprised to not see a lot of responses to that spool tinkering though. A guy has to have his secrets :big grin:

TDZ or T3 w/ 1016

Zillion HLC

Tatula HLC

SV's are awesome, but overbraked in my opinion. Good for short game.

Zillion 4.9 Crazy Cranker with a HLC spool. As long as the lure isn't too light, I'd put it up against about anything.

JDM Zillion TWS 1516. I can throw a 1/2oz crankbait further with that reel than any other I own. The best heavier weight casting reel I have ever owned is the Z2020, but the Zillion 1516 is kind of like a smaller version of that reel. It has the same sensation when you let one rip. Only thing I have that rivals that feeling is an old Calais DC.

The USDM version isn't bad either. Had my 7.3 Zillion TWS on a 7'6"MH cranking rod for a bit before adding a BFS spool and using it for finesse. With 15lb fluoro and a decent amount of braid backing to lighten the spool it would absolutely DUMP the line out there. I have used a Concept C reel (tournament partner's) that would cast pretty dang far. Never used a HLC spool, would like to see some available or at least springs for guys with Zillion SV TW's fishing jigs, frogs, etc. Daiwa should really jump on the "tinkering" crowd they created...

JDM Zillion TW HLC, or the USDM Zillion TW with the HLC spool.

I am interested in this topic as well

I noted so far no one's; go to, is the SV103 with zillion G1 1016 or ZPI NRC PG spool. IS the SV103 even tuned not a good candidate covering large bodies of water, bomb casting.
Thx
Trevor

How far are you really looking to cast? What line are you using and what size bait(s)?

Put a non SV spool of your choice (34mm) in an SV103 and it would serve really any purpose. Get a 1016 spool in there and it will bomb baits! Or for light stuff, put a TD-Z 105H spool in there. Possibilities are endless but I haven't had any issues with the standard SV103 spool in mine.

I got a modded RSC 1016 spool in mine. Pitches very free and allows me to RIP baits with little effort. Definitely can't handle light baits without an educated thumb.

If you are throwing 1/2-5/8oz. l can't see how you are having distance issues with a 7'6" unless it's a pool cue!

It all depends of someone's definition of a bomb cast. I don't fish a huge lake, so 40 yards or so is plenty for me most of the time, even in open water situations. Other people casting are needing to top that by as much as they can every single cast. Then some are only worried about pitching/flipping or skipping. What are you throwing and how far do you need to throw it???
