Daiwa Sol

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa Sol

Post by Moosehead » Sun Aug 26, 2018 4:07 pm

I cant believe I have owned all these reels and fished with them and never new this site existed! I do appreciate all the good advice.
So far thanks to yall and to Spanky I have customized and upgraded most of my TD-Zs, Steezs, Zillions, Fuegos, Vientos, Tierras, really is a lot of fun too.
Now I would like to give my Sols a little attention. Is there a swept Daiwa drag star and Handle I should be looking for. I already have upgraded bearings and drags but really wanted to bring out the beauty of these reels. I was told I should already look for the Fuego/TD-Z/Zillion line guide for all four of them.

Sol is the US version of the JDM Alpha's. Many parts swap and so do many of the pixy parts. \:D/

Gotcha, just wondering if a drag star beyond the Alpha made by Daiwa might work...

Most should as they all have the 8mm drive shaft. There is a difference is between left and right hand though.

SV105 or SS SV have nice small ones.

It depends on how much you want to spend on your sol.
Here are a couple of swept non clicking drag stars

Here are some pics. You can do the same to your sol as i did to my alphas. Except add an Orange clicking drag star minus the bass or die knobs.

You should get an orange sv spool for one of your sols, looks pretty sweet. That and an orange spool tension knob.

Thinking about it, really wanted to put the Zillion/Fuego/TD-Z line guide on it but found out today it won't work. Where'd you get that spool?

Not to derail the thread, but you mentioned the Viento. Did you happen to find a decent spool for it that drops in? The reel is really nice except for the 25g spool with fixed inductor.
