What spool ?

Post by uljersey » Sun Oct 14, 2018 1:37 pm

I have a Sol in retirement I may pull out to put on my incoming Kuying Teton L power rod. The rig will primarily be used to cast hard baits in the 1/8 oz to 1/4 oz range. As of now the Sol is 100% stock. Any suggestions (links appreciated also :) ) on an aftermarket spool that will really make this reel shine ?

From your other posts, I gather that you use and like very small braid. This should fit your needs nicely. And as luck would have it, the silver spool is the only one in stock. It matches the Sol very well.

Another option would be to pick up a stock SV 105 spool from the Tackle Trap. It really shines in the Sol for 1/8 to 1/4 oz stuff. I might have to get a Sol out and throw an extra spool in, now that I recall exactly how well it works. :-k

Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

The Alphas DIY spool is good up to a 1/4oz max. I've had an Alphas with a DIY spool in it on the Teton 662L and it was a good match. The spool handles the type of things the Teton liked to throw well.

I have an Alpha Type R spool in my Sol. Best 1/4 oz Pop R spool I've found. I got a SV spool for the Sol to try but liked the Type R spool better.

For light stuff the rays bfs spool for the alphas is the bomb. only thing I did was replace the noisy bearing with a hedgehog bfs bearing and sleeve from zillion 1016sv spool. the zillion 1016sv spool components can be ordered separately from PLAT without having to order a whole spool.

What is your budget for this spool? There is a wide price range. The cosugi works spool is a very nice finesse spool but on the pricey side. http://japamart.com/yahoo_auction/item_ ... q217988416

Or you could get a red, orange or purple alphas sv spool that is good down to about 1/8 oz.

Or you could get a ray's studio alphas bfs spool, but unfortunately the only one left is a silver one.

A megabass honeycomb spool for alphas/zonda

If you could find one and need more line capacity a megabass zonda spool would be very nice.
Thanks for the epiphany captain obvious
