2019 Daiwa Morethan PE 1000 TW

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Anyone care to share any thoughts regarding possible cons of the XH model after some time using the reel? About to pull the trigger in a day or two and slap a PG spool in it for jigs. 99% sure I'll be going this route over a Steez A XH or SV TW XH.
I’ve had mine for a good amount of time now. I’ve used it waist deep in salt water in Maui for a week, I’ve caught stripers in the bay with it close to 15lbs. Many bass on the CA delta. I took it apart for the first time since the time I initially opened it up to look at the gears and relube it. Everything was looking great no salt or corrosion issues with the bearings or other parts. All I ever did was rinse the reel off with fresh water after using and put it away after. The black paint has held up better than I thought it would. It’s moved from rod to rod til I finally found a decent home for it on my evergreen SS GT. The only thing on it I don’t care for is the dark gold accents. The side plate doesn’t bother my grip on it enough to be an issue personally but I could see how it might for others. It is solid feeling during the retrieve very smooth also. I’m not sure the IPT rating but it feels fast and I’m loving it for buzzbaits and other moving baits. Right now it has a MB dark sleeper tied on. I threw on a g1 sv spool from the zillion svtw cause it matches the other stock parts perfectly and casts great. I have nothing bad to say about it.

Looks good Dom. Good to hear your input. I know what you mean about the dark gold accents. I have an extra gold PG spool and gold ZPI star drag I would throw on it and I know it won't match. It'll go on an nrx 873 for now so I'm not exactly pairing any color schemes anways haha.

Anyone care to share any input regarding issues using fluorocarbon on a reel with a high speed levelwind? I know I've read some chatter in the past regarding the issue but I can't imagine a negative impact regarding the lines durability. A complaint I saw was the friction of the line rubbing on itself but I think the T wing would mitigate any effect of that at least on the cast.

Nevermind. Read the entire thread again and it seems a few are using fluoro without issue on this reel. I don't even think it was determined if this reel had a high speed levelwind. I believe it was thought to because inherently the PE reels came with one(?). I'm a Daiwa noob so I don't know much about their history of technologies.

Loved mine so much, that I bought a second.

One is on my punching 7'9'' Steez AGS rod (steez A spool in it) and the other is on a St Croix Legend Elite 7'4 heavy and also has a Steez A spool in it.

I would be interested in how people view the Steez A spool vs the Morethan spool in the reel.

Again, super smooth, reliable reel that looks great!

Ended up ordering from Digitaka. Was out of town when it arrived but picked it up from the post office this evening. Threw on the gold ZPI parts, as expected not a perfect match but not too bad. Added a handle locking plate from a Steez SV TW SH and some cork knobs. Reel feels smooth and solid, unfortunately the forecast is trash here in N. IL so not sure when I'll get to take it for a spin.

Also fwiw, the levelwind doesn't appear to be high speed. I counted a hair over five handle rotations for one full travel(back and forth) of the line guide. The same as my Steez SV TW SH.

What about the frame size of the 2019 Morethan? Is it similar to the Zillion SV TW or Steez SV TW or some different reel?

Identical frame to the Steez A.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Thank you, this also means the same frame size as the Steez SV TW but different material.

Correct, and also spool compatibility.

After reading this thread I had to join the club. Mine should be here next week, can’t wait to see and use it!

Got a chance to use it twice over the past ten days or so as open water is coming to an end by me. I just want to say this reel is one bad mf'er \:D/

I have recently leveled mine up a bit for my swimbait game. Morethan necessary? Absolutely.
