Steez hyper Cast spool

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Steez hyper Cast spool

Post by goldrod » Sat Dec 15, 2018 10:19 pm

Looking for opinions on it?
Was it an original spool on any platform of Steez?

No, not original. I'm willing to bet that you could put a stiffer spring on a stock Steez 100 spool and get the same characteristics...

It’s really not an improvement over a stock steez 100 spool. It’s also designed for lures 1/2oz +
As Adam already mentioned... adding the hlc spring to a stock steez spool will give you basically the same result.

Guess I am the "outlier" here. I have been using that spool since 2010 in an OG Steez 100HLA with lures from 3/8 -1 oz. It definitely provided an improvement in casting distance without being "wild", but as always YIMMV ;)

How does the hyper cast spool compare to the Steez 100sha spool?

Was your reel or spool modified in anyway?

Given that I accidentally purchased two of them I think I may try it in a tdx for crankbaits and sling some mid to deep cranks

I bought I'ze HLC spool from Steez for my sv tw Zillion.

I haven't tested spool yet. Spring in my spool feels soft vs. my OG HLC Zillion. (I don't know that is there modifications made in spool by former owner.) But I will test it first and after that maybe change spring if needed.

Shape of spool seems similar to 100 spool. Main difference might be colour. I'ze HLC spool seems not lighter than 100 spool.
