Tatula CT/SV bearing retainer
I cant remember if there was a topic on this, and if there was I cant find it. Has anyone tried replacing that stupid star retainer on the crank plate spool bearing with a normal one?

Oh wow, I forgot it had those. I hope they never do that again. They're already going against my wishes and expanding their OEM line...
This is the way.

Re: Tatula CT/SV bearing retainer
I managed to melt a ridge into my CT when I owned it and put a OEM wire retainer.
Bit fiddley but worked well.

Could that retainer be a cause of loud screeching sound on a cast???LgMouthGambler wrote:I cant remember if there was a topic on this, and if there was I cant find it. Has anyone tried replacing that stupid star retainer on the crank plate spool bearing with a normal one?
My Tat SV screams. I have taken it apart cleaned oiled the bearings but still get noise.
Next might swap bearings with known silent ones

If you have it smooshed against the bearing, there is a possibility. Try taking it out and flattening it, and try it out again. More than likely a bad bearing though. That's my thought.

Try greasing the spool shaft ends before you do anything else.QUAKEnSHAKE wrote:Could that retainer be a cause of loud screeching sound on a cast???LgMouthGambler wrote:I cant remember if there was a topic on this, and if there was I cant find it. Worst design going. Not sure why they used these to hold the bearing in place

Re: Tatula CT/SV bearing retainer
That was a standard for Daiwa back in the late 90's. IIRC, the TD Advantage had that bearing retainer. I'm also puzzled why they would bring them back. Pretty sure it isn't a cost savings for them, so yeah.....falcon wrote:Worst design going. Not sure why they used these to hold the bearing in place
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
Re: Tatula CT/SV bearing retainer
I ordered like 10 of those things last time I ordered parts from daiwa. I'm sure if you could find the right size c-clip it would work.
Hobby shops that deal in RC cars would be a good place to start looking.

Re: Tatula CT/SV bearing retainer
Here's a screen shot of the vid I saw on instagram. Supposedly the dude at high speed bearings popped open a new Tatula HD and it had this retainer on the gear side spool bearing.

The OG Tats are like that with regular retainers. Ugh, Spool Speed junk bearings. Lol.
