JDM Zillion TW 1516 question

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

JDM Zillion TW 1516 question

Does this reel have aluminum sideplates or zaion? I know the drag star is metal, but I was curious about the sideplates. Does the line guide have bearings on both sides?

I'm pretty sure on the crankplate its Zion. Damn reel is amazing though. Levelwind has one bearing on it. Haven't opened it up yet. It's super smooth, smoother than any Daiwa I have ever owned. Love that reel. The spool is just insane for casting.

Thanks, it doesn't matter now, I couldn't resist and ordered it anyway. I've got bearings for the level wind so I guess I'll just bite the bullet and swap it in.

I figured as much, the type r replaced a zillion coastal so I guess in reality its replacing the zillion. Hopefully I'll be catching redfish with it by the end of the month.

Got it in hand today, gear side was aluminum, the other side plate was Zaion.

Its sad that since I made the post I have bought both the TW1516 and the SV TW, yet I have used neither of them.

The newest JDM HD and HLC models have alloy side plate and palming set plate
