Crankbait reel

Last year I bought a 13 fishing concept c for my imx pro 845c cbr throwing mainly squarebills. The reel is... okay at best. Sure I can really launch it but I’ve never seen anything more finicky. I am a shimano guy and would like to replace it with a shimano reel. Which shimano casting reel have you guys had luck with for squarebills and lipless? Stick with 6 gear ratio or try something else? Was told the 7’s are nice for lipless and squarebills for ripping them around weeds and such?

I know it’s on tge heavy side but I’ve got a few legend glass rods with bantams I use for cranks and they work great super sturdy . Curado k is a good one as well I almost use all 6 ratios for cranking except if grass is really thick I’ll go to a 7 ratio and faster taper rod. Tge rod you have is one of my favorite trap rods I have a Curado k 6 ratio on my 845 and it handles them great

Awesome thank you! I don’t fish a ton around heavy grass so figured the 6 gear ratio might be better! I love the rod, my hook up ratio and land ratio went through the roof last year after I switched to this rod! I’ll see if I can throw a Curado K on and see how it feels. I’m leaning this way for sure. Just wasn’t sure if the 70, dc or chronarch mgl would be the better way to go.

I've traditionally been a Daiwa guy, but the last couple of years have been adding more and more Shimano to my stable. For squarebills, I'm using the new Bantam. For things like Rapala DT6s, a Chronarch MGL.
I had the Concept C and loved it at first as it would flat out launch baits when paired with the correct rod, however, I soon discovered what a temperamental beast it is. Sold it.

I just picked a Tatula 150 in the 5.1 ratio. I think it will be a good cranking reel. I wish they made the Tatula 100 in the low ratio, bu they don’t, yet.

Honestly, I toss cranks on a 6.x ratio. I find the lower ratios too slow for how and where I fish. I simply don't crank deeper than 8 feet here.

Which do you prefer between the two? (Bantam or chronarch mgl). I just got my first bantam on Sunday and boy does that ever feel like a nice reel. I don’t want to spend that much right now that’s why I was looking st the curado K or chronarch mgl again. It sounds like for the dt6’s the bantam would be the better reel?
I feel you, great looking reel, palms so beautifully, crazy smooth out of the box (not as refined) but I can even think about looking at the spoon tensioner without it blowing up

Honestly, you can buy two curado Ks right now for the price of a single bantam reel so I would definitely buy a 6.2:1 and a 7.4:1. That reel has become my crankbait (mainly squarebills and lipless) reel of choice over my calcutta 200d and 100te gt.

Yah in Canada the Curado K is 249.00 and the bantam is 479.99. I love the feel of the bantam but have a lot of big ticket items coming in the following weeks and can’t really justify a bantam at the moment. So hopefully the k feels good on the rod!

It's sort of a different strokes deal. Squarebills, I like the Bantam, smaller cranks like the DT6, I'm using the Chronarch MGL at this time. Always subject to whichever way the wind blows, though.
