shimming older tdx, tdz reel seets

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

shimming older tdx, tdz reel seets

Post by johns » Wed May 29, 2019 10:05 am

broke out some older reels and switched rods around. I cant get the reels tight on a St Croix and a Falcon Expert. I remember a long time ago there were some home made remedies for this. Also if I remember correctly the Ito came with one. Don't really want to spend any money so what are your solutions? thanks for any help. By the way old tdx on an old falcon expert mh is great for throwing chatter baits.

How about just some painter's tape on the reel foot?
slip bobbing is the laziest way to fish

Automotive stone chip guard sheeting - its like a sticky vinyl 'clear' sticker. Depending on thickness required you could also use auto / sign writing vinyl and build up the thickness required.

Once all nipped down you will see how it beds in and the reel won't move.
