Casting + Internal Damage

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

I finally got it opened. Upon inspection, there was no damage to the main gear and the spool pin. The only damage that occurred happened to the pinion gear (as seen in the photos). I will be ordering a Calcutta Conquest DC from plat, so im thinking ill order the pinion gear from there as well? Im not sure if the Z200 shares the identical pinion gear as the Z2020 but I know the main gear is a little different.

Buy both the main and pinion - don't buy only half a gear set. Check the part numbers and cross reference. We only got the Z200H here in Aust so can't confirm the Z2020?

Is there any benefit of buying both? Theyre pretty pricey. But if it comes down to it, i dont mind.

I contacted Daiwa USA and they said they are "separate" from Daiwa Japan, so they couldnt source me the parts. I know some guys here have tried as well.

Like buying one shoe because it's got more wear than the other - gears mesh together and as soon as you introduce a new gear you may / will have gearyness issues.

So i got the parts in today (main gear and pinion gear). Ive installed the parts but im running into a few issues.

After putting the reel back together, it feels like the spool tensioner is set all the way and turning the handle is harder than usual.

Another issue is that my drag star isnt clicking anymore as i installed it.

Im not sure what im doing wrong......? Any help?

With the parts you received from OS, did you visual them against the old set that come out to ensure they share the same geometry?

Ive got parts and due to whatever reason they have been picked or stocked wrong and subsequently received only not to fit...

Pull it all apart and check dimensions - something isn't right... They're a fiddly reel but shouldn't be too much or too hard if your only changing the gears - the rest is a pretty simple reverse - build.

I've had that happen when I didn't get the teeth in the anti-reverse sleeve lined up with the notches in the main gear.

So I had another local forum member put it back together successfully, but i got it home and it busted again. No more binding issues, but now the trigger is getting stuck, along with the drag not using its full potential.

Im going to take it apart again and see whats wrong. But if nothing prevails, i will be sending the reel out to a specialist.

Have you seen the schematics? The Z200H is top and the Z2020. The lower is fewer parts and basically the same however.

I had the schematics right in front of me when i was putting it back together. Overall its a pretty simple design inside, i dont know where my error could possibly be..... :-k ill give it another go tonight.
