I do have a tuned up customs ice rod that I had wrapped with red threading to match the CI4 1000 that looks pretty sweet.
Daiwa reels - gaudy or sexy?

I don't know how could anyone even come close to saying that the morethan has too much color clashing. The original? Maybe, a bit. But the newer model looks slick, and nowhere near too flashy. In fact, i'd go as far as saying it looks better than all currently produced Shimano baitcaster reels.

Re: Daiwa reels - gaudy or sexy?
Shimano never really dived into the need to dress up their reels - they didn't have a trick shop or many other parts to choose from. They just worked on a pretty simple yet strong principle of "they just worked".
I think Shimano reels look straight forward and the need to dress up a reel with Avail, that other brand which makes those crap reels now and other avenues did exist for a reason - just highlighted the simple nature of them.
I mean I've stuck different parts on some reels from others, changed knobs with anodised caps etc to match the spool highlights and some others but never needed the avenue to wipe over a host of colours or even excessively plaster on a single colour all over a reel.
While some reels look good don't get me wrong "they look good" as shown above, I just find some of these reels that exist "customised" now look reminiscent of a clown and I'm not talking the 'Pagliacci' type either - there are some over and above cases where you got to ask the stability of the owner if they are channeling through their fishing gear...

Although some of the Daiwa stuff is a little over done (though no where near some of the Megabass versions) I have found a few models over the years to be very aesthetically pleasing, the Bluebackers and SW versions of CV-Z’s and CV-X’s (especially if fitted with the corresponding coloured RCS I knobs) and the first round of Zillion Pe specials (blue/gold) are some of my favourites. I do like simple colours and designs too however and my Steez A with Megabass hyper cork knobs suits me. I do like the Shimano’s line ups too, inc all the Chronarch and Curado lines except for the E series Chronarchs and I detest the Chrome Calais/Antares they both show a greasy thumbprint from a mile off!

And then it starts to corrode under the chrome and it peels... I think the reel should've been ION plated like the 100B Chronarch... I've got both the Calais DC and the Antares LV7 DC both extremely awesome reels but gaudy as hell!DaisyZillion wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2019 1:36 amI detest the Chrome Calais/Antares they both show a greasy thumbprint from a mile off!

The Revos have their fair share, Aurora models and the Ike series.medicpelle wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2019 7:34 amAbu Garcia is around for those who don't like flash and want to be boring.

And I was (still am) reeeaally tempted by that Ike Revo. I've never owned, but have always wanted to try a Revo. I know they're OEM, but they have to be the best of that lot, and I know if I got it I would just have to have one of the matching rods, too. I don't know how that combo would hold up or if it's even worth a damn, but does it ever look killer...DaisyZillion wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2019 4:16 pmThe Revos have their fair, Aurora models and the Ike series.medicpelle wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2019 7:34 amAbu Garcia is around for those who don't like flash and want to be boring.
OMG TW is giving away free tackle bags with the purchase of a Revo right now! I do need a new bag for hardbaits...
This is the way.

Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Lol...this is TT. There's threads dedicated to showing off "gaudy" reels. If you want plain jane looking stuff, Amazon has that.

I thought some of the new daiwa stuff was a little muted. It would be nice though if the new coastal sv wasn't 2 shades of blue though.
