Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Shimano Metanium mgl Brass Gears

Post by chreim20 » Tue Aug 13, 2019 3:01 pm

Hey, I'm sure someone has done this to one of their Metaniums, what are the part numbers? I have the 7.4 gear ratio. Is it the curado k drive gear and the metanium mgl pinion gear?

Thanks guys!

Yes it is. The kits in stock at The Tackle Trap include the Carbontex drag stack for the upgrade.

It does not have the 7.4 gear set in right game, just left hand.

Yes true, I believe the pinion is on back order on the RH sets in that ratio. I wasn't sure whether you needed RH or LH... they're on order either way and will be back in stock as soon as possible.

Have any of you guys noticed the brass gears going rough a while after the swap? I did the swap maybe four months ago and they’ve already gone out

Did u replace the pinion gear, too, or re-use the original Metanium pinion? I know from personal experience-you ALWAYS replace gears as a set. I learned the hard way.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
