In the market for UL/Finesse Spinning reel.

Post by Just_Bass » Sun Aug 18, 2019 9:44 am

Okay, I’m going to buy a spinning reel but can’t decide which size is the best. The main purpose of this reel is UL fishing for crappies and bluegill pair with Daiwa Presso 5’6. Once a while I might use this reel for finesse bass fishing pair with crucial 6’8 M/Xf.
I’m looking for something budgeting and light so my choice would be daiwa exceler LT, but can’t decide should I go with 1000, 2000D or 2000S. I know benefit of bigger spool but mainline gonna be 10 lb briad and both 1000 and 2000 got the same drag capacity. Now about 2000S I only found one seller from Chinese site, look around all over the world but can’t find official Daiwa that carry 2000S in exceler LT (only legalis LT come with 2000S) If I add backing either braid or mono to 2000D, would that give me the same benefit as 2000S? I plan to have only 100yds of mainline, the rest would be backing. Any opinions?

What advantage of the bigger spool are you thinking of?

Only advantage I've read about has been that 1000 size spools don't handle larger lb test lines as well as larger spools, but if you're planning on using 10lb braid you won't have any issues; it's generally the same diameter of 4lb mono, and is more supple and zero memory compared to mono to begin with. I use 15lb braid on my Tatula LT 1000 because 6lb mono was giving me issues, and the braid works flawlessly.

I'd say go with 1000 size if you're primarily pairing it with your Presso rod. There's a chance that the 2000 size would balance your other rod better, but it would feel more unweildy on your Presso. My Tatula 1000 is a decent bit lighter at only 5.8 ounces, and it balances a St Croix 6'4" legend elite panfish really nicely, where I know I wouldn't like a bigger reel on it.

I prefer a wider and taller spool for castability. The shallow spools common in the JDM market are great for this.

I have a Presso 1025 on my Presso 62ML and it's a great combo.

Thanks, I end up with 1000D legalis instead. I don’t care much of using spinning for bass anyway and I don’t think spending money on one piece handle would gain a lot in crappies fishing. I still want that Tatula LT for the super light weight.
As spec concern seem like 1000 and 2000 have same frame (weight and maximum drag) Anyone try to fit 2000 spool into 1000 size reel? I might buy 2000 spool as spare for mono line.

I have a legalis 1000lt.
I did put a revros 2000lt spool on it to see if it would fit.
It fits but i never tried to fish it to see the line lay.
The drag knobs are the same size.

I have a 7' presso rod and have a daiwa QG750 on it.
Nice combo but the rod is fairly flimsy.
