Bantam MGL

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

I plan on pairing it up on a NRX 843

I like mine.

I am using it for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and other resistance baits. Really smooth and good power.

I wouldnt pair it up with an NRX. It deserves to be worked as Shimano designed it to do.

I've put one on a Steez XBD rod with the yumeya shallow spool and 50 braid..
I like it better on this rod for frogs and for swim jigs.

One is on a flipping stick.. I have to see what I did with the other :-k

I have one and I love the concept of the all metal reel! That said, I'm such a creature of habit I mainly use my CU200E's and CH100Ds! I guess I have too many reels....

I have the XG version. Using it with a custom rod and 17lb Sufix Advance for pitching baits with weights in the 3/8-3/4oz range. All brake tabs on and the dial right, it does really well. Its solid, and there is little to no resistance. Im liking it. Tried casting with it, but my Citica200E is a better casting reel.

I've got the HG and XG for basically all presentations. Frogs, jigs, worms, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, you name it I'm doin' it. The Bantams excel at basically every power and finesse application. I do like to give them a workout when I can though. I love a good chuck 'n wind day because these reels are so smooth it's a joy just to turn the handle.

That said, a lighter reel is probably a better choice for an NRX, provided it balances well. I'm leery of the Chronarch and Met MGL due to a geary feeling through the frame, so I'm not sure what else I'd slap on the NRX, at least from Shimano anyway. So far my Bantams have just balanced out my otherwise somewhat tip heavy rods, so I haven't wanted a lighter reel. Which is great, because I love my Bantams. :)

I have two Metaniums but want something tougher for the 843, right now I have a Curado K on my 843c but it just feels like it needs something nicer and I can get a deal on the Bantam MGL.

The Curado K is a great reel, I also added bearings everywhere that I could to it, maybe I'm just acting to spoiled with all
the high end stuff lately.

I use my 843c NRX for lots of things, its kind of my do all....

Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, dragging 3/8oz tubes, 1/4oz 3.8" keitch swing impact....

Anyone try the Yumeya shallow spool in the Bantam?

I wonder if it comes with the bearing in the spool....

The Bantam has a bearing in the spool? Brian.
Are you fishing or aimlessly casting around?

You can remove the bearing but I have found that all they needed was flush and relube

I have the shallow spool

Did the shallow spool come with a bearing though?

I have two PG, two XG & two HG. Four brakes on & adjust the dial from 2.5 plus or minus works for me. I pair then up with mostly Z bones & Helium 3 and a couple of customs. I sold all my mets for Bantam money.
