I love BFS fishing and in case of moment of inertia of spool can be reduced, it makes BFS fishing even more enjoyable. If momentum of inertia is small, lighter rod can be used. And casting control is better because smaller amount of magnetic brake is enough to control spool. Small diameter of spool is good because it reduces moment of inertia and in addition to that, in similar cast spool turns faster which makes it easier for magnetic brake to work. I really want this new tiny spool, but I'm afraid of this new little Steez is too expensive for me. I really wish Daiwa introduces more reasonable priced reel with this spool. Zillion, Alphas or Pixy..

That's the idea behind the 30mm CT SV spools and honestly I haven't seen a whole lot of people raving about them. In fact it seems like a pretty lukewarm reception. One spool people do rave about is the NRC001 and those are simple fixed inductor 34mm spools, so I'm not sure going even smaller is the answer, especially in the bass world. It probably is just to keep people from buying that spool for their CT reel, just like they did with making the Tatula SV 33mm.

This may be in part due to low sample size. At the price point, it’s not a very accessible reel to try out, especially if it’s not a niche that ‘needs’ to be filled in one’s arsenal.

I did end up getting one. It is an awesome reel and great spool. However, it did not have impact on my casting compared to existing steez Sv tv with newer zpi spool as compared with something game changing like when sv spools first came out.

What did you end up getting? I'm curious, as I believe my Steez SV TW with Nrc001-m spool is the best caster in my arsenal.

The tiny ct steez. And I don’t find much difference between it and a steez Sv tv with nrc spools. I don’t go as low as jveith on the lure weights, but I imagine I’d have to go pretty low. I just feel like I could ‘make due’ with the Sv tv without it affecting my fishing.

Yes it looks better in video, but still in that price tag a carbon fibre crank should be used and higher quality knobs and maybe finer drag star. Spool looks very good anyway!

I agree...paired with the Steez Harrier Finesse (JDM and Australian release only) it’s truly Daiwa’s Best High end BFS combo yet... pair it with a 1/16 oz Ned head and 3” keitech and you are set. Plenty of backbone in that rod too.

Most likely not for the average bass anglers. Bfs is popular in Asian countries and this will cater for their market. I fish trout alot with bfs gears which I currently use the steez ct 2019 for. With aftermarket roro spool (4.9g) I was able to cast 1 gram lures easily. Going worth, I will most likely pick up this new steez air knowing that I will be able to cast 0.5 grams with it for ultra finess targeting panfish and stream trout that are hidden in thick over hanging trees. I still use the tatula and other beefy reels for bass. Good thing Daiwa is trying to cater towards all fishing applications and needs. I have a feeling they are producing only a limited amount.

Wonder how they reduced weight by 15 grams compared to regular CT. Spool is probably around 4 grams lighter, handle/knobs combo don't look lighter.

Spool, a little bit of porting on the frame and the zaion drag star.

Regular CT has same Zion drag star. They must have ported main gear/shaft a lot. Spool bearings look to be a lot smaller too.

28mm spool? Not sure why they're showing guys flipping full sized looking baits in the video, doesn't sound like the ideal use for a very finesse reel. Not sure where Daiwa are going with this one. How come they don't do the carbon handles and fancy paddles they used to do on some of their more extreme reels? A lot of expensive "meh " recently.

So far, I have refrained from placing an order on the new Steez Air.
As others have noted, many current offerings cover the BFS/light lure need. If the Steez Air was 40-50k JPY I would move fast and buy. However, as the price is >60k on Digitaka, I will wait a while...

Yea, the recent pricing levels have stopped me from buying much new stuff. When I first got into tackle-fetishism it was right when the sv105/sv103 reels were being discontinued and getting them for $200-300 nib really made it hard to deal with paying anything close to the recent MSRP pricing. I bought an Steez SVTW and a 18 Ryoga at close to MSRP and while I love both reels, they are not "worth" the extra ~$200 to me over an sv105/sv103. I have started buying most of my reels used and have had really good experiences with it to the point where I can't even think of a feature set that would get me to spend more the like $400 on a nib reel.
