New 2020 Shimano Metanium

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

This reel looks great. I used to prefer Daiwa baitcasters and Shimano spinning reels, but I think I may be swapping. I love the LT spinning reels and I'm not a fan of the Steez variants.

It's also up on Shimano's US website... I wish they would tell us more specifics on price point and availability and reel size!

Is it me or does this reel look larger on the US Shimano site?

Shimano US video. Aaron Martens brings up a subtle but good point, which will go past most non-Bantam owners...”Its warmer” My hands freeze with my Bantam in cold weather, even with gloves

Interesting to see Martens w/a Gloomis rod. ;)

But as someone whole still loves the Met 13 and MGL models, I'm excited for early March to get a couple of these!

44,100JPY for the reel in Japan, comes out to $400USD with the current exchange rate. I hope they don't price this reel any higher than the current Metanium in the US. Also, JDM release for right hand in March, left hand in May. I wonder if the US models will be out around that time as well. My guess is yes, maybe they will release both right and left hand models in May. I'm hoping to get one in my hands ASAP so I can fish it the whole season. I only get mid-May to mid-Sept really, so I'd hate to have to wait til July to get one. But I'll still be buying one!

44,100JPY is the same MSRP as the current Met MGL. If the Japanese tackle shops do a similar price markdown as the current ones (selling around 33000 yen) they could be had for just a little over $300

Why would they do that for a reel that literally just came out? The current Met MGL has been out for 4 years. If I were running a business, I would not discount a brand new reel by $100 right after it came out, and I highly highly doubt any sellers did when the current Met came out either. The best we could realistically hope for right out of the gate is 40,000JPY ($363USD).

It seems to be the norm in Japan. The Steez CT has an MSRP of 58800 yen and the Japan tackle sites had it listed for around 51000 before it came out and its still the same now.

Yeah fairly rarely see a reel or rod sold at MSRP, new model or not.

Huh, good to know. If they discounted the Steez CT by 7800JPY right away (13.3% discount), and we apply that same discount to 44100JPY, we get 5865JPY, which would put it at 38235JPY ($347USD). This would definitely be a sweet price. We'll have to wait until March to see.
