Daiwa Alphas Air TW 2020

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Finally got around to some much needed attention was my specimen. I was river fishing a couple weeks back and slid down an embankment slightly and unfortunately lost grip on my rod and reel(2015 SS Cyclone and 2020 Alphas Air with 6lb P-Line CXX mono) in order to get myself righted she got gently drop and the rig got some fine sand coated on the top. Immediately dunked her in the slightly flowing river to release most if not all of it appears, but I needed to take this one apart and really give it some much needed deep cleaning to be sure this finally Precise machine beauty stays t*ts performance wise. Thankfully it wasn't a crazy drop so no damage to any of the finish thank Zeus! Anyway I took the time to add some Hedgehog Studio red BFFs bearings as well as add the drag clicker kit from Ryan and his company Sagisi Customs 8-) I opted for the OG clicker setup as it just looked cooler but in all this I forgot to take additional pictures of the finished product because I was so ridiculously focused on getting this reel back together as it's been awhile for me for a Daiwa as I've been always in the guts of shimano's in the recent past. Thankfully everything went fairly smoothly except for getting the bearing off the spool took some real patience as the Hedgehog Studio set up I have for removing the spool bearing from the spool to a bit of work but this is a newer type of spool that wasn't made when that spool bearing removing tool was made but thankfully I was able to pull it off. All in all I'm super excited to test it out the new bearings and so far the clicking drag is pretty Supreme so thanks again Ryan for Machining this little gem out for us 2020 Alphas TW Air fanatics 8-) This was a second hand reel so I also procured the OE handle nut retainer as in it's place was an HHS Avail looking one that did not sit well with me, so big thanks again to Spanky and the folks at Triple T for getting me my miscellaneous parts for this cleanup project and parts additions.
