I'm in the market for a new deep crankbait reel. I'll be throwing nothing smaller than a 6XD and a lot of 10XD sized baits with this setup. No Revos. I just don't like them. And i don't want to spend a ton. I'm looking at a standard Lew's BB1 or a Shimano Curado K. I don't crank with a 5 gear ratio. I prefer the 6 range. I know the BB1 will bomb them out there but I have a couple of those in my shop waiting on new pawls to come in the mail. I have seen several Lew's reels come into my shop needing pawls/worm gears. That seems to be a common failure point for these types of reels. I call them cookie cutter reels because they are so similar to the Revo and BPS lines. I prefer the quality of the Shimano but I want as much distance as possible. I've been using an old Quantum Icon for the last two years and it has been okay but I never got quite the distance I am looking for. I like Daiwa reels but the magnetic dial always gets turned while in my rod locker or occasionally when fighting a fish. That can make for a serious backlash when you just grab your reel and cast right away. I learned that the hard way.any recommendations for a good long casting casting reel? Thanks!!

Something from the original Zillion family would be my pick.

The Tatula Elites are designed for long distance casting. I’d look into those. I just picked up the Daiwa Coastal SV which is based off the Tatula 100 frame but has a deep spool. I can’t use it yet since all of our lakes are closed but I’m also going to pick up a Tatula Elite and see how the two compare distance wise.

The Tranx 200 was just delivered yesterday but the boat is in the shop so I can’t really try it out yet. I may go ahead and order the Tatula and keep the one I like best.

They’re actually a lot more different now than they used to be. Still very similar though

Tackle Trap has the Zillion TW HD at 7.3 that I use for cranking and it casts a mile and has plenty of power with deep divers.

Daiwa Catalina BJ 100 (4:9:1) solid reel.

Tatula 150 P works for me , love it.

Great reel for cranking. I have been using mine with a PE + FC leader.

You could try a bantam mgl.
I really like mine so far.

I got a Curado DC for a good price. It is a 7.4:1 but I’m gonna give it a shot. We’ll see. Thanks for the input guys!!
