Frogging reel suggestions
Frogging reel suggestions
Looking for a 7:1 with 32+ inches per turn. What do you suggest? Curado K comes to mind, what does Ish use again? Going to be paired with an Expride.
I currently have a 150-sized 7.9:1 Patriarch with upsized 95mm handle. It works, but I’d love a bit more power (and easier handle turns) to manhandle those fish.

Look no further than a Bantam MGL. Rock solid reel made for smoothness and power.

Bantam. Even the XG is a winch.

Ish uses a Zillion SV in either a 6 or 7 gear ratio. I went on a Bass U frog show binge today. It almost seems like Roumbanis and Ish prefer 6.3 reels. They say it lets them slow down and walk the frog better.Drakestar wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 10:42 amLooking for a 7:1 with 32+ inches per turn. What do you suggest? Yeah, I feel my sweet spot for walking is a 7 speed with about 30 ipt. Although I haven't played with a lower gear, an 8.1 seems to wear my hand out a lot quicker with a hasty rhythm.HobeyBaker wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 7:04 pmIsh uses a Zillion SV in either a 6 or 7 gear ratio. Re: Frogging reel suggestions
The new Tatula SV surprised me with its power and smoothness under load. You got 6.3, 7.1, and 8.1 to choose from.
I was using a buzzbait and had no issues with chucking and winding it around. Even when hooked up with a fish, drag locked, it had a bunch of power and felt solid and smooth under load.
Worth checking out. Especially with the Huk Daiwa shirt promo. I thought it was just going to be a smaller version of the prior model...nope. Casts better, feels better and, palms better too.
Tatula SV and the shirt from Tackle Trap for 180 bucks (using code TT10) is a steal. Shirt is via mail in rebate but, they print it out and include it in the box.

Core 50mg7 or Aldebaran MG7 swapped with XG gears. Smaller size for comfortability without sacrificing speed.
Re: Frogging reel suggestions
I picked up a Bantam MGL for frogging but have yet to use it. It is very small and palmable which is critical for frogging IMO

Huge fan of my IP with HLC spool for frogs on a gen 1 Orochi PP. Just pop the stock spool in for bottom contact and you are good to go. Two rigs in one.
