Can we talk Alpha for a second

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Alpha air tws and the previous model without tws and has the red spool ( I think it was an sv spool? )/ are the spools compatible?
Do you mean previous model Air: Daiwa 16 Alphas Air, Japan model 2016-2017 https://japantackle.com/reel-archives/c ... s-air.html

Acc. to viewtopic.php?t=76474 SS Air, Alphas Air, T3 Air - 32 mm
(Current ct Alphas = 30 mm & Current Alphas Air = 28 mm.)

Those spools are not compatible. 32mm vs 28mm

No problem thanks for all the help.
I do get confused at times and I’m not ashamed to ask for correction
The looks of that 2016-2017 Alpha would be nice on a Steez bottom contact rod.

At one time I thought I wanted an air stream custom but after much reading on here I found it to be a great reel just not for my team. So I saved money on not purchasing a good reel that wasn’t what I needed based off my fishing.

So my new question is
The 2016-2017 alpha seems like a good reel and I understand the line capacity restrictions but in general how’s it in casting. 5/16-3/8 jigs? 12lb floro

^ Haven't tried that old Alphas Air, but same spool sized T3Air. T3Air casted those weights naturally very good. (Actually it felt that was too heavy for it but casting distances was decent.)

...In my opinion current ct Alphas would be good choise for those weights. If you wan't shallow spool for it, K.T.F. has expensive premium spools and Aliexpress has a lot cheaper solutions. 30 mm Roro and Ray's for example.

You mentioned line capacity of 16 Alphas Air; for 12 lb it would be really restricted because for 6lb it is 55yds.

If you want to build an Alphas you are better off with an Alphas SV. You'll have to live with the silver frame. There are no black frame Alphas with deep enough spools to do what you want. All those reels are finesse or UL reels. There is also the Zonda reels. That is one way to get a black frame Alphas. The reel is actually called Alphas btw not Alpha. Daiwa is weird. I actually like them better than my old gen Steez. More compact and smoother while staying smooth and quieter longer.

There is also the Magabass Lauda which is a a black and red Alphas SV. It has the aesthetics of the Alphas Air but a deeper SV spool and is compatible with other 33mm Alphas spools.

Ahhh Don’t get me started....I am so far down the Alphasaurus rabbit hole as we speak...I bought one of the original 103’s and one thing led to another and I know have almost two Steez SVs invested in the little bastard and still going lol🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤑😪🤯

It’s getting pretty sexy now though....🔥🙌💯

It’s Daiwa’s fault I tell ya for making it the best palming reel ever made I tells ya!!!🤩👌💯

Big fan of these reels. I have 4 Alphas and 2 Pixies. Looking to add the 30 mil spool Alphas to my collection just because. I'd rather buy it now before they disappear. Made that mistake with SV103s.

Silly question:

The alpha ct sv VERSUS alpha 105 sv

Which is the better of the two?
Maybe a redundant question but I was just wondering

I like the black but the gold seems to be apart of the reel and not the spool
Even though the Saints colors would be cool I’m not a black and gold reel guy plus that gold would be hard to match with after market parts

The Alphas SV (Alphas 105) has a 33mm SV spool and is compatible with other Alphas spools. The Alphas CT SV has a 30mm spool and can only use other 30 mm spools. Both are great. Honestly if you want the black and red theme just get the Megabass Lauda. It's an Alphas SV 105 with a black and red MB treatment. Clear side plate too.
