Which shimano low profile for deep cranking

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Which shimano low profile for deep cranking

Post by Matt_3479 » Sun Jun 28, 2020 7:18 pm

Looking at getting a low profile shimano reel for deep cranking. Strongly debating the bantam mgl. Rod is a megabass launcher, 7’11” medium heavy, main purpose will be 6xd. The odd 10xd, deep six and 300x

If you get a Bantam I’d strongly consider upgrading the handle to a longer one. The Bantam comes with an 84mm only by default. The Tranx 200 has a 102mm handle, the Curado K 200 at least a 90.

The lowest ratio for bantam is 6.2 correct? I would also look into old curado 200 E5.

Japan Tackle has an Avail handle, gunmetal 105mm, a great match for the Bantam, just sayin'

Bantam MGL has a JDM-only PG version, which is 5.5 gear ratio, iirc.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

You are correct - that's the one I imported.

Thank you very much. I’ll keep looking for a bantam then and look at getting a longer handle
