New Curado 70 mgl K

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Look at the Daiwa Alphas reels. There are two generations. The one with the TWS and the one without. There have been many iterations of the non TWS Alphas over the past 15+ years but they are all the same platform and generation. This is great. Take something good and keep making it in many versions. There has been many different ratios and gear types and even braking systems in the old Alphas but they were all the same platform and generation of reel. These words exist in our language for a reason.

A refresh of the 70 is great. Calling it a 70K is misleading IMO. That is like calling it a new generation 70. It is not. I know it is just a name but people will buy this thinking it is a new generation 70. Lots of people don't have functioning eyeball apparently or lack the ability to identify similar shapes. We see it all the time.

Look how confused everyone gets with various new Tatula reels. "Which Tatula platform is this again." "is this the big one or small one" We had to point out the the 2020 Tatula CT was in fact the Tatula CT. Everyone just assumed it was a CT version of the new 100.

Imagine the disappointment in buying a 2020 Tatula CT thinking it was going to be a new more compact version of your Tatula 100 but it is actually just a 2016 Tatula CT. Now imagine that you a hate the nut retainer and thin knobs on your 100 and prefer the paddle knobs on your old Tatula CT but you don't use the CT because you hate how big it is compared to your Tatula 100. You excitedly open the box on your 2020 Tatula CT that just came in the mail and you are greeted by this. The same reel as your Tatula CT but with the knobs and nut retainer you hate from the Tatula 100.

So if they re-release the Curado I with MM gears as the 2021 Curado K, you will be ok with that?
They did the exact same thing several times in the past. The Curado 100B was re-released as the Curado 100D and Citica 100D. The Curado 50E was re-released as a Chronarch 50E. The Curado 200 E became the Chronarch 200 E. The Curado 300DSV became the 300E. Each time, it was either solely a paintjob, or superficial changes like drag star composition or a single bearing in place of a bushing. There is a lot of that going on in all avenues of manufacturing, not just fishing equipment.
That whole deal with the Curado E and Chronarch E was a fiasco. Those were some great threads back then though.

Or the dreaded Ceanan based Curado G reels that replaced the beloved Curado E reels. The new 70 is not nearly as offensive. The reel itself is a refreshed and improved reel which is great. calling it a K is kind of bullcrap but that is the only thing wrong about the release other than the horrific black face plate. At least it is actually improved unlike the 2020 Tatula CT.

I actually like the look of the reel, just not the price. For another $60 I can order the Metanium from Japan and know 100% that it will outperform the 70. For essentially the same price, I can get a Bantam. They may be a hair larger, but they're not big reels at all. If this reel was $179, it'd be a winner. Not enough return on your investment at $230.

True, don't remember so many people hating on a reel as much as they did Caenan/Curado G. Bet Shimano wishes they could take that one back.

Daiwa this shimano that, most of the recent posts are bitchin n moanin about masss produced moneymakers. Chill out people. Keep in mind they are for profit companies. If you find a non profit fishing gear company let us all know.

Am I the only one that loved the Curado G? I've got a 120mm handle on it, egg Eva knobs, PG gears and just adore it...

You got lucky. I had 6 nib reels that came to my bench for a pre-lube and ceramic spool bearings. 3 had bent spool shafts, 2 had a warped frame and one had bad spool bearings. The clear factory seal was intact on all 6. All were replaced under warranty by Shimano. 2 of the 6 came back to me with slightly-bent spool shafts. I ground out the frame on those 2 so the spool didnt rub. 2 of the other 4 had the gears go out within 6 months. Shimano replaced those 2 and he sold all of them when they came back.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Aren't these worse in every way than the reel they replaced?

Strange. I kept both my G's and invested in them, but couldn't get rid of my Curado DC quick enough...

Its the old 70 from 2015 with different colors, deep MGL spool and MM gears.
And 3 more bearings. I guess one on the crank shaft and one knob each?

Most of the people that I knew who where Shimano fans at that time were snapping up the Citica E on closeout and scrambling to find the remaining Curado 200 and 50e models that were remaining.

Does anyone pay for retail for reels on here? It will be a $180 reel on the street, so $120 difference from the Met.
