Your opinion on the Daiwa's Zero Adjuster

Post by SSS » Sat Jul 25, 2020 7:43 am

Feels to me like the most useless/pointless "feature" Daiwa has ever come up with.

1- The cast control cap looks bad, and even the custom ones from ZPI, etc look worse than your standard clicky CC cap.
2- When swapping spools, there's a good chance you will need to adjust it anyways.
3- A beginner will use the cast control no matter what, because that's how they were thought to use baitcasters on youtube
4- No clicky

What do you all think?

They are trying to reach fisherman that are not the TT group. Lazy, refuse to practice, "fishing should be easy", etc. I have adjusted all mine before I reach the water because I find it limiting and lessens casting distance and ease of casting.

If you're referring to the average casual, they all use the cast control because that is how they were thought using baitcasters. You can type "how to use a baitcaster" on youtube, and every video will tell you to use the cc.

Makes no real difference to me, compared to the typical knob. I still loosen it just a hair, then leave it alone until the end of time. Same as any other Daiwa.

Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

It’s one of those “features” that’s just a marketing buzz word. I adjust my spool tension to minimize spool side to side play, make sure it’s loose enough to spin freely and never touch it again. Doesn’t bother me either way.

It's just a cast control knob like any other. It's just daiwa's marketing scheme.
I adjust mine as needed. I do like that it's hard to turn, so it wont move easily after I set it.

Didn't Shimano make the first Zero Adjuster in the Antares / Calais etc?

As others have stated, it would only matter if the knob wasn't adjustable - but it is.

My issue with it is it's a pain to adjust and I don't care for the look, but I do adjust my spool tension more than most anyway.

Marketing scheme - basically the same no clicking cast control.

Exactly. Part of the beauty of a Daiwa is the external magnetic control system, its ease of use, and effectiveness.

I like the fact that they are tighter and can't really be bumped out of adjustment, a few of my older Daiwas have caps that are very very loose when set to slight-play while I have never lost one, I know it's just a matter of time.

Not sure why would zero adjust bother anyone. I doubt many people here play with spool tension at all (beyond the initial set). I have a very strong feeling that if it was not listed as a „feature” it would not bother anyone.
