T3 1016 spool in a Ryoga

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

T3 1016 spool in a Ryoga

Post by LowRange » Sun Aug 02, 2020 4:37 pm

I have had a T3 1016 spool for some time and never used it due to it being wild in my 103 reels and T3 Balistic. I decided something must be wrong with it and put it down never to use it again until now. After my experiences with 103 and 1016 sized Aliexpress spools recently I decided to try the 1016 in another 1016 reel, my LIN 10 Black Jungle. So far it has been a pleasant surprise yard casting a Terminator walking frog with 65# braid. I can cast all the line off pretty easily. Almost TD Zillion HLC easy. The spool is still a little fast. These casts were at near max brake with just a tiny amount of side to side play on the spool tension. Not sure if I would trust it with non braid yet. Mag brake was set to 15 out of 20 points.

Is this normal T3 1016 spool behavior? I had to run the brakes quite high to keep the spool under control in the LIN but I am very happy with the distance. The spool was completely unusable in my Steez LTD 105.

Doesn't sound normal. My og steez 103 had a 1016 spool in it, and it was a casting machine. By all accounts, the Steez Ltd has the same magnets as the og steez. I may be wrong in that, but iirc, both reels behaved the same in my hands when I put a steez 103 spool in my Ltd.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Thanks. I had written the spool off as broken because I couldn't even get it to work in a T3 Ballistic at max brake. It casts just like the TD Zillion HLC in my IP68 but 34mm and in my LIN. Maybe it is broken but it found a home in my LIN and replaces the otherwise over braked spool it had. Maybe LIN Black Jungles have stronger magnets than Ryogas? Who knows with Megabass.

That used to be the spool to own if you had an OG Steez because it was very tame, but still offered great performance. If you have to run anywhere near max brake, something is off. Sounds like it worked out well for the LIN though.
