reels in australia

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

reels in australia

Post by lifeofRiley » Thu Aug 06, 2020 12:36 am

Does australia get the same model reels as the US. What are the main species targeted there, is it all saltwater or do they have lakes there? Is there largemouth bass? Smallmouth? Brown trout?

Hey mate, much of our low profile baitcaster and casting rod technology come out of the US and Japanese Bass scene as well as many lures. We often see models from the USDM, JDM and South East Asian (Oceania) markets and occasionally get Australia specific models come through (Edge Rods Black Widow Southern Cross). They are used in for Barramundi in the Nothern areas which are saltwater, freshwater and stocked impoundments, Australian Bass in the middle Eastern to South Eastern sectors which are freshwater to brackish water in natural streams along with their brethren the Estuary Perch and for Murray Cod and Yellowbelly Perch in southern freshwater areas. There are other species and areas where these are used but these are the main ones.

Our range is a bit far from exciting for the last few years.

For the local fish thing I tried doing that fish post - but it go no traction.

large and small mouth bass no. There is an Australian Bass. brown and rainbow trout yes in the southern highlands areas in streams and in dams. I am in the northern tropics on the east coast and we have multiple species to target. favorite freshwater stream and river fish would be the Sooty Grunter and Jungle Perch and Barramundi which is a salt and freshwater fish. most of my fishing is saltwater estuaries targeting likes of Barramundi, Mangrove Jack(snapper), Fingermark (golden snapper), Grunter (Javelin fish), Black Jewfish ( a species of Drum), many species of cods (groupers), and Trevallys (jack).
A lot of the reels we use have been developed for the bass scene with the Australian released reels just based on something else. like the Daiwa Sol 2 baitcaster is a tatula and the sol 3 baitcaster a zillion sv. a hand full of rods as shorter rods are still used a lot here. you will find a lot of people still using 5'6" to 6' baitcast rods.
Then there is the tropical reef and game fishing which there is too many species to list.
