Is there a JDM counterpart to the Shimano Vanford?
I'm curious. Is there a JDM counterpart to the Vanford or is it sold both here and in Japan? I figure if any forum would know, it would be this.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Thanks. So it looks like the size 2000 is not long stroke... too bad. That was what I was interested in.
Thanks for the link.

What do you mean "not long stroke"?

The 500 is not long stroke all others are.

The Vanford/stradic fl have a trickle down from Stella spool that is longer with a better lip so line peels off more easily and gets you a longer cast. I tested it on a stradic against my kage lt and got about 4-5 more yards with the same lure/rod/line.

Scud, THANKS for the reply.
may I assume that you are using size 2500 and up? Those seems to have the long stroke spool.
The dissapointment is that I looked at the data on the size 2000 (and presumably reflective of 1000) and see that their spool stroke is actually no longer than before. In fact, they are noticeably shorter than the Daiwa 1003 sizes.

Dang is this true? I too was thinking the 1000/2000 were long stoke.
The Shimano website I thought only excluded the 500; but could be wrong info.
Someone will confirm when these start shipping.

I dont see why the smaller sizes wouldn't be long stroke?
The stradic FL 1000 size is a long stroke spool, so why wouldn't they do it on the Vanford

The 1000 size Vanford and up will have the long stroke spool.
500 size does not.

That's what I thought too.BRONZEBACK32 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 8:43 pmThe 1000 size Vanford and up will have the long stroke spool.

I assume the 500 size will be the same spool as shimano's other 500 size spools but lighter weight.

Bronzeback, that's what I originally thought.
However, when I look at the photos, the 1000S and 2000SHG clearly are shorter than long stroke 2500S and 2500SHG. They also have a short stroke C2500SHG and comparison of the photos show that it has the same stroke as the 1000S and 2000SHG. Finally, looking up the specs of the 1000 and 2000, it shows 13.5mm which seem to be short stroke. The 2500S and 2500SHG are 17mm stroke.
17mm stroke is 26% longer than 13.5mm.
I'm not debating here - simply discussing.

Not to be discussed. I’m also awaiting 500/1000/2000 size to be available. Most of the old 1000/2000 size are 12mm spool length 2500 is 14.5mm, while Vanford have 13.5 and 17mm accordingly. From paper it seems to be long stroke spool alright. I’m kind of very disappointed that 500 is not a long stroke spool, but I can’t find any detail of 500 on japan website.

Ah....I see. That is helpful. If I remember correctly, my old Daiwas from 2007 in size 1003 are about 15mm stroke so I thought long stroke from shimano would exceed that.Just_Bass wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 8:45 pmNot to be discussed. I've never had a high end shimano to compare but I load my Daiwa almost to the edge of the lip and generally have no line control issues. The line just go straight out without hardly having a lip to touch so I always thought that should cast further than the current Shimano's long angled lip that is unavoidable. I'm not sure if I am right of course....
There is no Vanford 500 for Japan. Japan's line up is more limited than the US but they do have shallow spool..
