Zillion sv TW 1000

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Never had a baitcaster with aluminum gears but the ones on pictures at the jpn Plat website looks solid, non-micro and must surely do for my intended perch and walleye fishing. Good to read that Daiwa hav'nt had massive alu-gear issues.

Conteplating about If I should drop the Tatula SV TW 103 idea and go 2020 Zillion - it really looks good, the SV-boost intrigues me and it will save me half an ounce... but not money... ;)
Steez A is an amazing reel, I've put so many hours on this thing from the "crazy cranker" up and they are smooth and solid even after a lot of use, and YES, I do properly maintain my reels.

Of course, I'm excited to check out the new technology Daiwa is bringing to the SV game. I'm always one to try high end new technology before I start complaining about how something looks or drawing useless comparisons when I haven't even actually had it in my hands and fished it, but hey, that's just me
Ok, good, let's hope the new Zillion gears equals or even surpasses the gear durability of the Steez A as my understanding is that Daiwa gears don't come easy nor cheap...

Digitaka is not taking pre orders for the zillion as far as I can see. I've emailed them but haven't heard back in a week or so.

It also has Shimano s "silent tune" at the shaft end to reduce spool clattering. Sv boost: there are now 2 springs in inductor assembly, not sure how it works exactly.

I found some info here

Weighed in at 175.4g and 13.43g for the spool

I think he said the spool is compatible with other 34mm spools too.

Somehow that spool weight is a little disconcerting to me. While weight of the spool isn't everything, I just imagined a light spool as they advocate the new boost spool for light lures.

Just like the Alphas TW, the black plastic piece on the handle side plate it killing it for me. Reminds me of $99 reels.

Also it appears they achieve the dual rate spring by using two springs with a white plastic spacer. I imagine a softer spring at the base and a stiffer spring on top.

I can't remember off the top of my head if they are plastic or not, but it's the same style retainer that Shimano uses for the Metanium MGL and Metanium B. The metal clip that Daiwa uses on the Steez is classier, but not a deal breaker for myself.

I really like the Metanium B at its price point and will be watching the reports on how this reel performs. I have all of the current variants of Steezs and like the CT the best, but I don't think it's worth the $150-200 more than what I can get the Metanium B for.

I like the change. I wish it had a colored nut or center of it but it's a nice change from the years of redundant locking plate.
