On the look out for sticky reel grease

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

On the look out for sticky reel grease

Post by freelancer27 » Wed Dec 09, 2020 1:16 pm

Hi all,

I don't know about you but I have yet to find a good reel grease that keeps sticking on the gears. I have been using a combination of different greases over the years and all seem to have the same problem.

After a couple of outings there are just not sticking to the gears and the gears start to feel geary again.

Especially my Shimanos suffer from this problem.

Wondering if anybody has some advice for some really good and sticky reel grease.

My Daiwa Morethan's had some super sticky grease, but I was not able to track this type of grease down.

Greases that I have tried so far:

* Shimano Reel Grease: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Shimano ... -SHRG.html
* Super Lube: https://www.amazon.com/Super-Lube-92003 ... 490&sr=8-3
* F-Zero Pro Grease Medium: https://zpi-japan.com/products/F-zero.html

Thanks for your recommendations!

Yamalube marine grease is pretty sticky stuff. I use that on all of my gears.

Do you mean this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oLnEKAl9QQ ?

THat is a bit too chewing gum for me. Will be a night mare when cleaning a reel.

Does anybody know what Daiwa uses in their latest Morethan reels?

Thanks!

This works very well and stays put, hot or cold.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

I don't remember. I thought the vid I saw a while ago was about gear grease.

The Reel Butter Grease and Daiwa Space Age Reel Grease are two of the thickest/stickiest that I have tried over the decades. I didn't like either because they cause a lot of resistance.

Shimano recommends their ACT 2 drag grease for their micro gears and Cal's is about the same.

I'm a fan of Deuthlon ceramic gear grease

Another good one is Evinrude Triple Guard, even stickier than Yamalube.
