Smaller from dawia

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Smaller from dawia

Post by Bandersnatch » Fri Jan 01, 2021 10:11 am

Dawia guys, I'm looking for a dawia reel that has a smaller frame than those I've been buying. I've purchased two dedicated setups for skipping but am struggling to find what fits well. In typically a shimano guy and have figured out that I really love the aldebaran and curado mgl 70 frame size. Ive got the new zillion, love it, but it's similar in size to the met b that I find just a tad bit too big to be "the one" so I'm looking for a dawia reel preferably in the sub 6.5oz ish range that either has an sv spool or can take one. I do have a 2020 tatula, it sits low but is really wide. Does dawia have anything similar frame wise to the aldebaran or curado 70? Pixy?

From my limited experience I believe the options from Daiwa would be a used pixy, an alphas variant, or on the pricier size the steez ct sv. Someone else might know of another small sized reel they make, but that’s the limit of my knowledge.

You want an Alphas variant.

The new Alphas SV TW is small. Did about 4 casts before my guides froze (cold weather). Seemed to cast well. Will report when I get above freezing.

Grab an Alphas CT 70. Best all around reel for the asking price imo. Very versatile too.

Bandersnatch, type Skipping Alphas SV into youtube. A board member has a clip there that might make up your mind for you.

The alpha sv tw or the steez ct will be great smaller reels for you.
