2021 Shimano Reels
Re: 2021 Shimano Reels
from google translate
Infinity drive:
A new mechanism developed by Shimano to achieve stronger and lighter winding. Of the two grease bearings that support the pinion gear, the bearing on the spool side that has the highest rotational resistance. The structure has been redesigned so that it is not supported by this, but is supported by the spool shaft from the inside of the pinion gear.
so 1 of 2 xship pinion support bearings is removed?
I see only 3 bearings in total, one spool shaft bearing from the palming side, the second spool shaft bearing is moved , it its closer to the pinion sitting on the spool shaft, and the last one is under the spool shaft friction control ( the one serving as a pinion support bearing as I understand for the google translate )
It is just observation, Shimano would not just do it without good reason to the Calcutta.

Re: 2021 Shimano Reels
The Scorpion DC is JDM, so no warranty service in the US. There’s the current Scorpion DC based on the previous Curado I body. For 2021 it’s getting upgraded to the Curado K body to get micromodule, a larger lighter MGL spool, and exciting drag sound. The US Curado DC is also based on the Curado K body, but no MGL spool and drag sound.Walleyehawger wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 9:48 amDoes anyone have any details on the new Scorpion DC I have seen pics of? Should I just grab another of the current Curado DC or is the enough new coming that I should wait?
More important, the old and upcoming Scorpion DC uses the superior I-DC5 while the Curado DC uses I-DC4. I-DC4 only gets 4 brake settings; skipping/windy, fluoro, mono/braid, and long cast. I-DC5 has 3 line options with 5 brake levels each, for 15 total settings.
Hope this helps!

Re: 2021 Shimano Reels
SLX BFS should cone around 185USD or so street price. Not terrible for a ready to go BFS reel that isnt an AliExpress reel.
Was hoping for something different but, it has its perks.

Re: 2021 Shimano Reels
Anybody have any info on the line capacity of the 2021 Antares DC?
After I tried my buddy's 2019 Antares MGL, I was quite impressed and are strongly considering getting one too.
Would prefer the DC version if it had slightly more line capacity. Otherwise I would need to run a leader on the 2019 version in order to run 12# fluro on it in sufficient capacity.
Thanks.

Thanks a lot.Cranky wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 4:13 pmhttp://fishing.shimano.co.jp/product/reel/6276
12-130、14-110
16-100、20-80
More line capacity while staying at the same body and weight. New spool design?
Re: 2021 Shimano Reels
Be careful assuming that. Japan and US have different standard diameters for a given pound test line.freelancer27 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 5:53 pmThanks a lot.Cranky wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 4:13 pmhttp://fishing.shimano.co.jp/product/reel/6276

For example 12 lb line in the USA uses 0.31mm diameter while Japan uses 0.285mm diameter.
So you have to pay close attention to what specs you’re looking at

Let's see. I think a small bump in line capacity would make the reel much more universal and therefor attractive. Just my 2 cents.

Well, I think the new 2021 model will get a small bump in line capacity.
If I compare the specs of the 2019 model with the 2021 here:
2019: 12-100,
14-90 16-80, 20-65

Re: 2021 Shimano Reels
Yes, 34/19mm spool vs 37/19mm spool. Interesting that only the 2021 Conquest got the new InfinityDrive.
Re: 2021 Shimano Reels
It's actually somewhat typical of Shimano to introduce something new in one of their flagship products before trickling that technology down to other models... Antares, Conquest, Stella usually get something before the others - usually. That explanation of the InfinityDrive hurts my head though. It will be easier for me to understand if and when I'm able to take one of those reels apart and see what the guts look like.

Re: 2021 Shimano Reels
My comment was more about the Conquest and Stella SW getting it and the Antares staying with X-ship. The Antares doesn’t interest me at that price point anyway.
Also interesting no new freshwater Stella or standard non-five-piece Poison Ultima 2021 models... yet.

The Antares refresh is surprisingly underwhelming.Cranky wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 9:22 amMy comment was more about the Conquest and Stella SW getting it and the Antares staying with X-ship. The Antares doesn’t interest me at that price point anyway.

Doing some quick math for prosperity: I was running 30lbs Maxcuatro on that reel, 0.23mm diameter. The spool holds 105 yards of that particular line, and I haven't gone past 1/2 capacity on a cast.freelancer27 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 8:49 pmYep, I thought about too, just after I posted my reply.

12lbs Sniper is 0.29, 26% thicker. Means that the spool should hold around 78 yards of Sniper.

Yeah, it could work with pure fluro. But, as I have experienced on the weekened, braid+leader adds just another leverl of sensitivity to it.
The 2019 version can be had for 433USD right now, while the 2021 version probably will be around 650 USD when it hits the market.
Have to do a bit more soul searching to determine if it is worth to spend another 200+ dollars to get DC, especially since I already have two DC reels (Antares DC MD, 201 HG Conquest DC).
First world problems...
