New Alphas SV Tw

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

New Alphas SV Tw

Post by Black Haze » Tue Jan 12, 2021 9:26 am

I might have missed it but, how does the frame size compare to the older alphas? Is this more of a bfs reel or more of an all around reel? Line capacity? Thank you for all and any input

Pretty sure the frame is the same, other than the zero adjuster and the brake dial design being different. Don't remember line capacity, but go to a JDM site and it should tell you from there. I think this is an all purpose reel that HEAVILY favors finesse work...

It’s a little more narrow than the traditional Alphas in width.. length is about the same.. spool sizes are slightly different.

New alphas palms much smaller than the old alphas. Similar to the steez ct in size. Capacity is similar to the sv105.

The new Alphas SV TW frame also sits lower than the OG. The spool is 32mm diameter but...is narrower than the SS AIR and other 32mm AIR spools.

I had a couple on my Alphas SV TW videos on YouTube videos ask about it being a BFS reel. The 90m of 12lb line holds enough line for most techniques. The spool is kinda narrow so, IPT will go down of close to spooling the reel.

Reel is for ML to MH I would say. Think of it like the original Alphas SV.

85mm handle, nice knobs, smooth retrieve. Outside of the name of the reel, I think most people will really enjoy it for the money. I haven't used the Zillion SV TW with Boost SV but, the Alphas SV TW is nice.

Sorry to give bad info, I had no idea that the new and old were different...

I think handles under 90mm look deformed.

The Steez 80mm handles just don't work for me, looks like someone stepped on them or they ran out of metal. I know handle length preferences are different, but 90mm+ gives better hand placement during rotation.

The 85mm handle on the 8.1 isn't bad. The 32mm spool isn't taking up a ton of line so there doesn't seem to be any lack of power. If it was a 34mm spool I'd want a 90mm handle. The new alphas is small so 85mm seems to proportionally fit just fine.
