Ray's BFS spool question for Daiwa
Ray's BFS spool question for Daiwa
Hello
I have a 2017 Daiwa Tatula SV and I want to put a BFS spool in it. Has anyone tried the Ray's spool in one, any opinions on using a Ray's in a Tatula? Also when ordering one, would I have to order a right handed spool? I haven't seen any specify in the spools for sale are right or left handed. Thank you.

Re: Ray's BFS spool question for Daiwa
I have a Rays spool in a 2020 Tatula, which works just fine. Right/left is not an issue, but be sure to get the right spool for the right reel model as there different Rays spools for the different Tatulas.
Re: Ray's BFS spool question for Daiwa
So there's no difference in buying a right or left spool, they are interchangeable?

And therefore you cannot find any spool specified as L or R.

Only issue is if you do spool swaps frequently between reels, if you try it with LH and RH reels, the line will be on the bottom.
You can, pull out all the line to "flip" it. BFS spool not bad.

Of course, there is that issue. I forgot, as I only use LH reels. Envy people who find both LH and RH comfortable...Hobie-Wan Kenobi wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 12:29 amOnly issue is if you do spool swaps frequently between reels, if you try it with LH and RH reels, the line will be on the bottom.

I will see once I start using it. I felt it would be better to buy a $40 spool, and put it in a great reel, than buy a cheap $65 BFS reel and roll the dice.

I usually suggest putting a BFS spool in a reel you own to try it out. Easier to sell a spool than an AliExpress reel.

I agree. If you (montey) frequent TT, then an Aliexpress reel, though useable, will quickly be uninteresting. I purchased the Fishband GH101 or whatever it is called, and quickly passed it on - it worked fine for the brief period I used it, but it is no Shimano/Daiwa.Hobie-Wan Kenobi wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 11:21 pmI usually suggest putting a BFS spool in a reel you own to try it out. The BFS spools are nice to have as extras even if you do not do a lot of BFS fishing. I bring an extra spool or two when travelling...pre-2020 when I still travelled.
Re: Ray's BFS spool question for Daiwa
Agreed with all the top poster. I now use a lot of shallow spool Daiwa and shimano for Bass fishing. Not really for BFS but to enchant other finesse techniques like Ned Rig, Neko rig with light braid. It help casting light weight bass lure more effortless and accurate.
Re: Ray's BFS spool question for Daiwa
I took 2 old Fuegos that were not being used since I have some nicer, and more fun reels for cranks and swimbaits. I got a couple of $35 BFS spools and put new 8.1:1 gears in the Fuegos and some 20lb braid. Now they are in the lineup getting used for light jigs and plastics for close range target casts.
