Zillion SV 1000 vs Alphas SV TW

Post by DirtyD64 » Sat Mar 06, 2021 6:13 am

Few quick questions about this comparison... the new Alphas is listed as having 8 bearings total, where are they? I assume 2 pinion, 2 spool, 2 main shaft, 1 anti-reverse, but where is the other? I just hope there isn't one bearing per knob and they removed the bearing against the frame on the mineshaft. I know the Zillion has 9, 2 total in handle, 2 pinion, 2 spool, 2 main shaft, one AR bearing. I am looking to add a few new setups and just looking to learn a bit more...

New Alphas has one levelwind bearing on the gear side. No knob bearings.

I was showing my 21 yr old son the new zillion, the new alphas, and a steez. His unbiased comment was the alphas felt the best of the three. FWIW The Alphas is pretty amazing machinery.

Can you post pictures compare between new zillion and alphas? I might sell my right hand bantam so will need a replacement in left hand. To me size of reel is very important. I use bantam mostly for Jig or chatterbait. I’m considering either zillion or metanium, I already have Alphas SV TW in left hand.

Just_Bass - I shared the comments about the feeling in hand. I thought is was remarkable that the cheapest of those reels felt really good and not to be discounted due to the lower price tag.

I don't have a picture, but I am pretty sure others have posted side by side views of those two.

Still trying to check into all this, I am assuming the new Alphas SV TW's levelwind does NOT track back and forth like the SV105's did? I really thought that was a cool feature, but not sure it will work correctly with the T-wing. I really feel for my lighter line river fishing that the new Alphas might fit better than the Zillion would. Any idea on the new Alphas SV TW spool weight???

To further blur the lines between the 2 reels, the gears are actually compatible between these 2 reels. Another member here confirmed this by swapping the gears from his USDM Zillion into the Alphas, and vice-versa.

That is a good new. Did he confirm both reel work properly after the swap? I think I saw @hobie-wan swapped the gear between Alphas air tw and alphas Sv tw, the handle didn’t spin smooth as it supposed to be?

The alphas air tw gear is thinner than the alphas sv tw gear. The air gears work in the sv tw, but not the other way around. The Alphas and Zillion gears have the exact same outer dimensions, including thickness, so it should work fine. I will ask, because he was thi king of leaving them swapped so the drag-out clicker is in the Alphas.

Yes it’s confirmed you can swap the complete gear and drag set (need zillion drive shaft collar as well) from the zillion right into the alphas and have a clicking drag setup on the alphas. The alphas has a washer between the drive shaft collar and the bearing on the main shaft that you remove if you run the zillion setup and the bearing will make direct contact with the collar.

Another note is steez ct gears are also a direct swap into either reel so swapping the other way appears you will be able to have a brass geared steez ct as well once parts become available. Or you can put aluminum gears in the alphas and save a little weight if you want to get it under 6oz.

FYI I just weighed the alphas with steez aluminum gears and it's now 163g (5.75oz)
