Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Does anybody recognize the platform - any close cousin in the US or Japan?

Agreed most likely based off Tat 400 in Japan. Prob why they are not releasing the 400 in north America. This will be the Tat400 with Power handle and color highlights etc. I can't wait to get one. Gear ratio's and line pick up look great for big musky baits. This should compete with the Tranx IMO. Which was a whole in Daiwa's lineup.

What differentiates the Tat 300 and the Prorex besides the handle?

Looks like the Prorex is based off the Tat 400, so it's a completely different reel than the Tat 300.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

I contacted Daiwa and they said that it has a slightly larger frame and deeper spool. Gearing and clutch mechanisms are the same as a Tat 300.

Exactly, it's a larger frame, which is the same frame as the 400. Good to know that the guts are the same, though.
