Teflon Tape on spool

Anyone use Teflon tape on your spool to get a bite when spooling up?

Yup. I used some on my Conquest 51S. I spooled straight 10lb Power Pro, and haven't had any issues whatsoever.

I use Teflon tape on ported spools to keep water out. Since Teflon is slippery, I don't use it on spools with solid cores.

Just keep in mind that it's an extruded PTFE plastic and the oil / petroleum oils etc on its surface could react with something.

Just a thought.

I always use an arbor knot with a bit of mono tied to the spool and leave enough line that it wraps around the spool a few times before joining it to the braid. That hasn't failed me and hasn't been an issue, even on super shallow spools. Just use really thin mono, like 4#.

I use waterproof medical tape, just small bit over the knot, been doing fine.

I flip line somewhat often but I knot then a bit of any tape after the knot.

Have used teflon tape since 2016 when zodiak311 wrote about it here on TT. It has worked great. Still use it on shallow ported spools for saltwater fishing (to protect the core from salt), but have turned to this method recently
