Chronarch MGL
Is Shimano discontinuing the Chronarch model? Can't find any information on a successor to the Chronarch MGL. Even the Shimano Japan site doesn't mention it. Does anyone know?

Re: Chronarch MGL
Not sure. I still have an HG... Are you looking to buy one?
I still like mine, I don't think it isn't smooth like some have said, just has a buzzy feeling while retrieving. Other than that it casts great still, I would love to see a successor to it...
Maybe a Chronarch MGL 50? Like a carbon composite bodied brass micro module geared miniaturized version?

Re: Chronarch MGL
No plastic bodies on reels greater than $60 please. Make it a higher end compact aluminum frame 70 reel to slot between the curado 70 and Met

Re: Chronarch MGL
I purchased the 150 MGL last year. Great reel; smooth, light, no buzzy feeling. It was made in Japan however so it probably uses some different parts . . . .DirtyD64 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 6:53 amNot sure. I still have an HG... Are you looking to buy one?

It takes some time and use to develop the gear buzz. Not sure if this is a gear issue or the plastic frame is to blame or a combo of both.gambler2100 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 7:54 pmI purchased the 150 MGL last year. Re: Chronarch MGL
My Bantam has a big time buzz that I can feel even when I am using a Jackhammer bladed jig. It started getting buzzy after just a few trips. My Curado 71 MGL has developed a slight buzz after just 2 trips.LowRange wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 5:59 amIt takes some time and use to develop the gear buzz. MM gears and me don’t get along very well. Most of my MM reels have gotten buzzy very quickly.
I usually add a bit of ace-2 grease to the gears before use since that’s what’s recommended by shimano but it hasn’t helped in my experience. Maybe there’s a better grease option to protect the delicate gears?
Sucks too because MM gears feel fantastic when new.

Re: Chronarch MGL
Buzzy feeling and not smooth are the same thing to some. I'm one of them. If gear mesh is felt then the reel is not smooth. Mounting the reel to a rod can dampen this significantly though.DirtyD64 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 6:53 amNot sure. I still have an HG... Are you looking to buy one?

Re: Chronarch MGL
This is what I wanted to convey. It isn't rough, just a meshed/hum when retrieving. It did not do it straight from the box however, it developed after 2 seasons. Honestly when I used it with a medium powered rod it didn't either. It was once I went to 14lb w/ a 7'6"MH and began dragging heavy football jigs and flipping brush. Again though, it still retrieves fine, just has an odd hum to the gears. I for this reason have no fear of certain aluminum gears, especially in the Steez A. That is by far my smoothest and most resilient reel.LowRange wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 11:42 amBuzzy feeling and not smooth are the same thing to some. I'm one of them. Re: Chronarch MGL
This sounds like a Xship bearing(could also be pinion but it would always make noise) issue with the way you described it. Louder buzz when more load is put on the bearing from using bigger baits. Cheap easy fix if that’s the case.

Re: Chronarch MGL
Great information guys BUT back to my original question: is the Chronarch MGL finished?
Re: Chronarch MGL
You can also grease the gears with cals and if that provides temporary relief from the buzz then it is certainly gear related.
Re: Chronarch MGL
With it being gone on the shimano Japan site then it probably means it will be either revamped or discontinued. Maybe we will get the vanchevy to go along with the stradic rename of vanford. The US site still shows it as part of the lineup and TW is showing a restock anywhere from this month to August depending on model so its a bit difficult to tell at the moment.gambler2100 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 9:31 pmGreat information guys BUT back to my original question: is the Chronarch MGL finished?
I'd probably go over to the shimano support forum and ask Bantam1 if he has any info...
