Does anyone regret buying the ‘19 Antares A b/c of weight?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Does anyone regret buying the ‘19 Antares A b/c of weight?

Just purchased another jdm Metanium 2020 for $300 & I’ve noticed the Antares is $425 ish. For the people who maybe have both, is there a $125 improvement or even a improvement that is “very” noticeable? Just been looking for a different shimano to use. Either will be going on my NRX 873crr or NRX 893c.

Your 873CRR will be better balanced with the Antares. I have that exact set up. I also have several Metaniums, a Bantam and an Aldebaran. I like the lighter weight and higher speeds on the Metanium’s, but the Antares is the best reel I have ever owned.

I didn't buy it but I love the weight behind it

I own both reels and find both great. Do not mind the weight at all. Antares feels and looks more luxurious but functionally not worth the extra dollars imo.

No. It's an amazing reel and you don't notice the weight at all on a rod with a good balance point. The Met20 is great, but if I put that on my Aldebaran rod instead, something is missing.

I own two Antares and one Metanium. The weight of the Antares is not a problem. The rod must fit, then the combo is perfectly balanced.

I have the Antares on my NRX 893c. Balances it much better than a lighter reel. Also, as others have said, you dont feel much of the reel's weight once on the rod. Balance is often much more important than absolute weight of a reel, rod or combo.

The weight is one of the best parts. Nothing like a solid little reel that is absolute butter when you turn the handle and it stays that way over the years. This is what I love about my Megabass IP reels aside from the slick looks.

I fish smallmouth and am all about spins. I’m not much of a bait casting aficionado but do use them for three things. I disliked the Antares after I purchased one so much that I got two more rather quickly soon after
