Zillion1000 has buried the whole Shimano lineup.

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Zillion1000 has buried the whole Shimano lineup.

Post by SSS » Mon Apr 19, 2021 7:02 pm

I don't know about the sales, but all i am hearing is zillion zillion and more zillion. Not just here, but literally everywhere that isn't a place with people saying "I love my KastKing. Its the smoothest and furthest casting reel i've ever got".

This must be the most successful Daiwa reel in a decade (at least).

The Bantam was the go to thing not so long ago... And before that we'll who remembers?

It's just a phase... But if it had a OG line guide than T Wing it'd be a machine of a reel that I'd buy.

We'll see. Most of the time, the proposers of absolutes end up looking foolish in due time.

I doubt Shimano is going anywhere solely based on the new Zillion. Also, it's still a $350 reel. There's a large number of people that fish that can't/won't spend that coin on a reel. So I don't see $150 lineups being "buried" by a tree fiddy offering...

I've got one but don't have enough hours on it to declare it the supreme ruler in its class. It certainly is smooth and casts great. I have 2 more coming soon. I'm basically replacing a few of my SV103's. If your a Daiwa person, it's a welcome addition to their lineup. If your a Shimano person, it may catch your eye because it looks more like a Shimano that a Daiwa. We won't know how it holds up or if there are any bugs to work out until late summer or fall. By then, enough people will have used them for a while and post about any issues.

I have three of these and have not put much time on them. However, they don’t seem as refined to me as a Steez A. I think the hype is due to the newness factor, Japan made for JDM versions, and lower price point (compared to Steez).

Limited time with this reel, this week it will see a challenge on Clearlake, so we'll see, so far its extremely smooth for the price point which is not placed at the high end mark by any means, Daiwa definitely shot for the stars on this one, based off of this Zillion redesign I'm excited for what's next... totally new Steez or better yet the TDZ resurrection.

Like many new Shimano and Daiwa reels my guess is that the Daiwa fans will call it the "greatest ever" and the Shimano guys will say meh.

It's a solid reel and great addition to any stable. Competition will never allow there to be a greatest reel ever, and that's a good thing. Everything else is subjective opinion. I prefer my Steez SV TW by a slim margin. Certainly doesn't make it the greatest ever.

Yea but the Bantam has an issue from day one, its weight. None of that with the Zillion.

Yea, but if you're searching for a reel for your jerkbait setup, jerking with a reel that weights more than certain round reels is just an annoyance. The Zillion would be good for everything.

Well if you look at its construction overall in comparison to the Bantam, you can see the two share construction differences.

If the Daiwa Australia website is correct? Others are just aluminium, aluminium alloy... Who knows

It looks like and is built like a Shimano. Hidden frame screws. Plastic top cover over frame like Curado K. Shimano style plastic handle nut retainer. Shimano style knobs and knob caps. Shimano style silent tune. Shimano like paint finish on the crank side. Shimano like crank case protrusion in the frame.

There is always the TDZ
Light and ergonomic

That being said I will agree to disagree with you. Like all reels, give it some time and people will pick it apart and when it is discontinued , it will be highly sought after like the SV103xs reels.
The new zillion is a cool looking reel , Daiwa Z with a TWS maybe?
give it some time
