Knocking sound from baitcasters

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Handle shaft axial bearing play can be a factor - it's a sum of all parts.

Both of my reels are less than six months old. I have suspected the bearing inside the zero adjuster ball bearing C from the schematic.

I think its slop in the gears and the pinion teeth are smacking the main gear theeth. My LINs don't do it but have the same slop in the in pinion yoke but super tight gearing. With the reels that do it the noise comes when I rock the spool back and forth but a split second after the spool pin contacts the pinion yoke.
