Bail touching reel spool issue

Hey guys,

I can’t seem to figure out why my bail is so close to my spool now. I tried removing the spool and placing it back but it seems to still have the issue.

Another thing to mention is when I open the bail and cast and if I were to reel in where the bail automatically closes, it actually doesn’t close and I can reel in which just spins the spool without bringing line in while the bail is up so something is definitely wrong.

My guess is that your spool is not fully seated. I know you said you removed it and put it back on, but I suspect that the rectangular slot in one of the metal drag discs is not lined up with the other, so the spool did not slide all the way back to where it should rest. Take it off again, look through the center hole toward a light source, and see whether you see a clean rectangle.

So I made sure the spool was all the way down but the problem is still there.
I took some pics of the shaft and maybe you can see if there’s something wrong?

I bought the reel brand new about a year ago and I would have noticed it so I believe something happened recently that caused the problem.

Wonder if the limits in the bail or rotor have been damaged, you'd see that a heap on Luvias and Certate reels - something isn't right.

The bail wire's bent! Indo the non roller side from the rotor and see where it springs out to, then gently bend it until it's the right shape and sits naturally in the right position and reattach.

Being an air bail you have to be careful, I mean really careful as its tubular than a solid wire like shimano. The air bails have a capacity to cave in and collapse while trying to do so.

That’s probably what happened. I know somethings wrong because I can still turn the handle while the bail is open which can’t be good.

Where the bail is attached to the rotor there is a flat slotted screwdriver bolt. One on the line roller side, where the line goes round the bail arm, and one on the other end. If you undo the one on the other end then there's less chance of anything with the mechanism getting screwed up. In the attached picture the line roller side has been detached, you want to undo the other side and not the line roller side.

When fishing a spinning reel, always close it by hand and not by engaging with the handle. Your reel will last a lot longer. Not trying to be a dink, just helping
