2022 Daiwa Silver Creek Air TW Stream Custom

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

It does, it's shown right on the Daiwa website.

When this was first unveiled I thought for sure I was going to get it, based on aesthetics alone. However with the cost, and the plastic engine cover, I am not so sure anymore. Might get CQ bfs or wait for new aldebaren bfs instead. Maybe once this is released and people start reviewing it I will change my mind.

The plastic engine cover is purely decorative. It serves no structural purpose. It's a cheaper alternative to an anodized aluminum trim piece, that's all.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Exactly. Cheaper alternative, yet the prices keep increasing. No doubt, most of the new Daiwa reels that have been released recently are awesome reels, but the plastic engine cover really dumbs down the aesthetics. Hopefully it's not going to be a continuous trend, because this is part of what separates Daiwa from Shimano imo. I don't need nor want full on bling, but keep it fresh Daiwa.

It's still unclear to me why this Silver Creek is 12% more expensive than GekkaBijin. Maybe it's that new Hyper-paintjob?

Plat has uploaded new video:

Even that "ugly plastic engine cover" didn't actually look ugly in a video :D

Pre-orders are up at PLAT. 40k JPY, which is a bit over $350 at the current exchange rate. As much as I want one, I'll wait a bit for prices to come down a little. The Air TW was around that price when first released and now they can be found regularly for less than $300. I already have an Alphas CT with a Momo spool, no rush on my part.

Super attractive reel, but why $375 for a made in thailand daiwa reel? What makes this worth more than their other BFS reels other than aesthetics? I think I would rather have an original airstream custom made in japan for less or a calcutta conquest bfs for the same price.

I am not totally sold on where reels are manufactured makes a difference. I had a Steez SV TW come bone dry (even bearings) from Japan. My other Steez SV TW I had in the same exact order was just fine. Perhaps they didn't have room in Japan for the molds that are used for the "Alphas TW" parts (Gekkabijin, new Stream Custom, SV TW, AIR) so they have Thailand office make them. Idk but, isn't a big issue. Gekkabijin is beyond smooth and also feels super refined. If Daiwa is making reels like that in their "stepchild" factory...I think we are all right.

For the record... at least between the Daiwa and Shimano reels, since they build their product in a few different factories, there's no real, tangible difference. Any perceived differences can be attributed to reel spec. (i.e. Curado is never going to be an Antares no matter where either is built).

BUT ... where the reel is built does affect my subjective enthusiasm ... that's just how it is.

Anyone plan on getting the Silver Creek AIR TW? I think it will fit nicely into my already crammed stream BFS reels

I think I will pass on this one. I use the Steez Air, recent Alphas Air and Gekkabijin. I normally just bring one reel with extra roro spools and should be covered for now.

It looks nice but I doubt that will much better than the mentioned reels.
