Seriously still no news about new '22 reels?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

The technology behind the exposed brake dial is called ADS "Aggravating Dial Slip", meant to go with "Exciting Drag Sound"

I’ve been waiting ages for the exist 22 …but I have to say that the new Stella might just have a leg up on it this go around from everything I’m seeing online. I’ll just have to wait until I have both in my hands…

I dont like it. Flat black = Tatula/Fuego CT/SLX. Low end. I like the gloss and satin of the HD and would like the bright silver too if it weren't for those flat black accents.
More flat black tatula 80

The SLX DC XT looks like the 2017 Scorpion 100 DC but with a MGL III spool.
I think it’s actually a dc on the curado 70/scorpion 70 frame; I think it’s the first dc on that frame too… they’re getting all kinds of mileage out of that frame. It was released 6 years ago and still derivatives are coming. I await the MD version now. :P
I wish you right. I thought the same thing at first. The 70 is for the line capacity and not the reel size. The SLX DC XT frame is the same as the Citica 200I, Curado 200I, Scorpion 200, and 17 Scorpion 100 DC.

Joekaz, on closer inspection I think you’re right… some things don’t seem 100% 200i (seems narrower on overhead view, slightly different nose) but it seems closer to that than the 70, and the sideplates are definitely closer to the curado 200i / scorpion dc. Is it possible this is an attempt to get a few more years out of the scorpion 100dc in different colors? I’d find that more believable than this being a whole new frame (or even a modified 200i frame)…

Hopefully someday Shimano will come out with a smaller low profile DC casting reel.

These naming conventions make no sense. The 17 Engetsu 100 was a Scorpion 70 with an even shallower spool. Figure that one out.

Shimano just introduced the new Sahara FJ spinning reels. I find it interesting that they brought back the anti-reverse switch for all the sizes. Only the 500 sized reel had the switch on the previous Sahara FI.

Looking at the overhead shots, based on width and shape of the nose, I think we’re either looking at a modified curado i frame or an entirely new one as it is narrower than the 200i by some margin and the shape of the nose is notably different. Speculation time - is this a refresh of the SLX platform???

"SLX" have already used the Curado DC and Scorpion BFS platforms. I think SLX can be a platform or a trim.

Wow, you are right. Totally new frame but the palm side plate looks like the one on the curado I. Thats a new one.

Re: Tatula 80
If it is built on the alphas sv tw frame as I suspect and it's in the $160 street price range, I will be picking up a couple. It doesnt have the weird porting on the hood like the latest Alphas, plus the matte black finish is holding up on my '19 Tat 100 reels better than the silver on my Alphas. I personally like this one and I'll be an early adopter. If it performs and holds up like my '19 Tatula 100 reels, it will be a winner in my book.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
